Notice! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin episode 1 and Dexter: New Blood. The debut of Dexter: Original Sin had some major revelations and story developments for Dexter Morgan's early days as a killer. Before Dexter Morgan killed at least 144 people and became the infamous butcher of Bay Harbor, he started with a single victim. While the original Dexter show depicted his first death, Dexter: Original Sin went into much deeper detail on the subject and gave viewers an even better look at the serial killer's final days in college. It also changed some things about the original show and Dexter: New Bloodand there were some important revelations.

Dexter wasn't the only person Original sin whose life before the original show is being examined. From Harry (Christian Slater) and Debra Morgan (Molly Brown) to Miami Metro officers, Original sin is adding new layers to some of the original show's earliest characters. It also added some new players to the mix, most notably Sarah Michelle Gellar's Tanya Martin, and they all had some major revelations in the premiere. These 10 moments were the biggest, however, and will likely be important for the future of Dexter: Original Sin.

Dexter survived Harrison shooting him in Dexter: New Blood

Dexter: Original Sin is Dexter's life flashing before his eyes on the operating table

As soon as Dexter: Original Sin began, began to distribute major revelations for the franchise. At the end of Dexter: New BloodDexter apparently died in the series' sequel. Harrison (Jack Alcott), Dexter's son, shot him in the chest with a rifle, and it looked like he bled out in the snow. Original sinhowever, it immediately set the record straight and established that Dexter had not died when Harrison shot him; Angela Bishop (Julia Jones) took him to the hospital and surgeons worked to keep him alive. All Original sin is framed as Dexter's life flashing before his eyes on the operating table.

Dexter surviving New bloodThe ending of is surprising in itself, but it is also a shock for another one to come. Dexter show. After Original sinanother show, Dexter: Resurrectionis on the horizon and is scheduled to happen later New blood. Many people thought that Resurrectionno Original sinwould explain how Dexter could survive the shot, but this explanation came much earlier than expected. It also means that Original sin and Resurrection they are much more closely linked than previously thought, as they occur essentially at the same time.

Angel Batista and Vince Masuka worked with Harry Morgan

Angel and Vince seem like important characters in Dexter's origin story

Two of Dexter's best friends from the original series – Angel Batista, now played by James Martinez, and Vince Masuka, now played by Alex Shimizu – have joined the cast of Dexter: Original sin in the premiere episode. Interestingly, Angel and Masuka worked directly with Harry Morgan, long before Dexter started working there as a forensic technician. It seems that in Original sinBoth Batista and Masuka are still newbies, as Batista works with Harry and Masuka works with Tanya Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar).

It should be interesting to see how Dexter: Original Sin depicts the beginning of Dexter's friendship with Batista and Masuka. Dexter almost always stated that they weren't actually his friends, and he is also a pretty strange person in the world. Original sin. The prequel show probably has some kind of special event or plot development in the works to get Batista and Masuka to like Dexter and start hanging out with him outside of work, but it's still unclear what that could be.

Harry's original plan was to let Dexter unleash his bloodlust as a doctor

Cutting up a corpse wasn't enough to satisfy Dexter's bloodlust

In the original series, some characters thought it was strange that Dexter was a great candidate for medical school, but he went into forensic science instead. Dexter: Original Sin finally showed exactly why Dexter went this route, and it was unexpectedly a little more complicated than it seems. Harry originally wanted Dexter to become a doctor so he could cut people up and satisfy his bloodlust by helping people, not hurting them.. However, when Dexter cut open the corpse and saw no blood, he doubted that a life as a doctor would be able to satisfy him.

When Dexter cut open the corpse and saw no blood, he doubted that a life as a doctor would satisfy him.

It was only after Dexter saw Masuka's booth at the career fair that he decided to go into forensics and be closer to crime and blood scenes. Dexter was enchanted by the crime scene photos and ended up deciding to do an internship at Miami Metro. It's unclear how this changes the plan Harry and Dr. Vogel created in the original series, or why Harry agreed to let Dexter give up on becoming a doctor.

Dexter saved Deb from a rapist at a frat party

Dexter would have killed the rapist if someone hadn't pushed him

A week before Dexter's graduation, Harry ordered Deb (Molly Brown) to take him to a frat party they had both heard about so he could mingle with people his own age. At the party, Deb got extremely drunk and her friend made Dexter intervene after a man took her to his room while Deb was unconscious. Dexter fought the rapist after seeing that he had his pants down, and he would have grabbed a knife and killed him if another man hadn't approached him.. This got Deb and Dexter kicked out of the party, and Deb was initially mad at Dexter for embarrassing her.

During the entire premiere of Dexter: Original SinDeb thought of Dexter as an idiot and a disgrace. After she realized that he saved her from being raped, however, their relationship began to improve and Deb no longer seemed as hostile towards her older brother. It seems like the frat party could be the basis of the extremely close and loving relationship that Deb and Dexter had in the original series, and that they could continue to grow closer as they go forward. Original sin continue.

Harry and Doris Morgan had a son before Dexter, who drowned under Harry's command

First son Morgan's death was likely the reason Harry adopted Dexter

In a major change in the composition of the Morgan family Dexter: Original Sin revealed that Deb was not Harry and Doris Morgan's only biological daughter. Years before they adopted Dexter, Harry and Doris had a son, probably named Harry Jr., who died while Harry was watching him.. In a flashback, Harry was watching football and drinking beer when he realized Junior wasn't there, and when he found his son, Junior was at the bottom of the pool. Despite applying cardiopulmonary resuscitation and calling an ambulance, Junior died.

It is possible that Harry was trying to replace Junior with Dexter, and trying to save another son, since he was unable to save Junior.

Although I don't fully confirm it, Original sin seems to imply that Junior's death was a big reason why Harry adopted Dexter. The original series explained that Harry took Dexter in when he found him in a pool of his mother's blood in the container, and Dexter was around the same age as Junior when he died.. It is possible that Harry was trying to replace Junior with Dexter, and trying to save another son, since he was unable to save Junior. Whether or not this is actually the case, however, remains to be seen.

Harry Morgan had a heart attack but recovered

Nurse Mary tried to poison Harry, but he recovered after Dexter killed her

During one of his hunting trips, Dexter told Harry about the fight at Deb's party and how he almost killed her rapist. This was enough to stress Harry out and raise his blood pressure, and he had a heart attack in the forest.. Dexter carried him to safety and took him to the hospital, but that wasn't the end of Harry's problems. The nurse responsible for Harry's recovery, Nurse Mary, was actually a serial killer who regularly poisoned her patients. She went unnoticed for years and chose Harry as her next victim.

Because of Nurse Mary's poison, Harry began to deteriorate in the hospital. He became so sick that he gave Dexter permission to kill Nurse Mary just to stay alive. After Dexter committed the crime, Harry's condition immediately improved and he ended up making a full recovery and returning to work on the Miami subway.. The cost of Harry's recovery, however, was letting Dexter kill his first victim.

4

Nurse Mary was still Dexter's first kill – but he was much more involved

Dexter manipulated Harry into letting him kill Nurse Mary

In the original program, Nurse Mary was also Dexter's first victim, but Original sin slightly modified the way he killed her. Harry still gave Dexter permission to kill Mary, but it was only after Dexter did his usual vetting process and determined that she was definitely a murderer. Dexter also went out of his way to manipulate Harry into thinking that letting him kill Mary was his idea, which recontextualizes the beginning of Harry's strange guidance of Dexter.. Once he actually put Mary on the killing table, however, everything was very similar to the portrayal of the moment in the original show.

Since Mary was the first person Dexter killed, her execution didn't go very well. He had to physically restrain Mary instead of simply injecting the tranquilizer into her neck, and he also had some trouble arranging her plastic sheets. Original sin also gave Mary much more characterization than the original show, and revealed that she looked down on the people she killed for throwing their lives away. The show expanded on Dexter's first death quite well, but it also expanded on what he did after his first death in a gruesome and interesting way.

3

Dexter used to dispose of bodies by feeding them to alligators in the Everglades

Before he had his own boat, Dexter dumped bodies in the Everglades

In the original series, Dexter was known for cutting up his victims, placing their body parts in trash bags and throwing them over the side of his boat in the Atlantic Ocean. In Original sinhowever, Dexter did not have access to a boat and had to be more creative when disposing of Mary's body. Instead of throwing her into the ocean, Dexter threw Mary's carcass into the Everglades and let a pack of alligators devour her body.. It was quite inventive for a person who didn't have a boat, but Original sin will probably give Dexter a reason to switch to burials at sea.

Another difference in Dexter's death ritual in Original sin from the original series is the fact that he took a trophy from Mary. After he dumped her body, Dexter revealed that he had one of Mary's earrings to remember her by, and Michael C. Hall's voice stated ominously that he would regret doing this.. This was also a bit of a retcon, as the original series only said that Dexter started taking sheets of blood as trophies from his victims, not as earrings.

2

Dexter missed Deb's volleyball game to kill Nurse Mary

Deb still went to Dexter's graduation even though she was mad at him

Before getting permission to kill Nurse Mary, Dexter promised he would go to Deb's volleyball game since Harry couldn't. However, as he was busy massacring and disposing of Mary's body, Dexter completely missed Debra's game.. Deb was understandably mad at Dexter for not keeping his promise, but she still ended up attending his graduation. As she told Dexter, family is more important than grudges, and it seems like yet another sign that she'll grow closer to her older brother.

It looks like Dexter has some lessons to learn from his early days as a killer, before anything Dexter: Resurrection has in store for him.

The moment Dexter saw Debra at her graduation ceremony also had an interesting detail that reveals a little about what Original sin means for the rest of the franchise. Dexter's narration, who was supposed to be the oldest Dexter in New blood Looking back on his memories, he realized that his life had always revolved around his family, even when he was a young adult. It looks like Dexter has some lessons to learn from his early days as a killer, before whatever. Dexter: Resurrection has reserved for him.

1

Dexter graduated and interned at the Miami Metro with Tanya Martin

Sarah Michelle Gellar's character is Vince and Dexter's boss

At the end of Dexter: Original SinDexter started his first day as a forensic intern at Miami Metro. Harry was initially skeptical about Dexter working at the police station, but as Dexter's voice explained, it was time for a change.. He was no longer satisfied with being a doctor, especially after killing Nurse Mary, and the only way to satisfy his bloodlust was to work murder scenes. This also means he'll be in the belly of the beast, and the younger Dexter still isn't good at hiding his shadowy passenger.

If anyone knows about Dexter's dark passenger, it could easily be his boss, Tanya. She wasn't even mentioned in the original show, and it looks like Dexter will take her place on Miami Metro permanently. It is not clear exactly how Original sin Will get rid of Tanya, whether she will be revealed as an assassin for Dexter to kill or if she leaves through some other means remains to be seen. Despite everything, however, Dexter: Original Sin It started very well.
