Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Is Tragically Preparing for Harry Morgan's Suicide

The truth about Harry's death was revealed in the original series

Harry Morgan (Christian Slater) cries in episode 1 of Dexter: Original Sin

Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 is expected to lead to Harry Morgan's eventual death, which could very well happen before the end of season 1. Dexter and his adoptive sister Deb always thought Harry had died of heart disease. It wasn't until much later that they discovered he died by suicide after seeing Dexter dismember one of his victims. Since spectators I don't see all the moments leading up to that decision in the original show, Dexter: Original Sin gradually accumulates to that tragic moment and has has already shown signs of Harry's inner turmoil and instability.

In the 8th season of the original Dexter series, it was implied that Harry's former partner, Davey Sanchez, was killed by a freed criminal named Juan Ryness. Harry witnessed Dexter dismembering Juan Ryness, who Dexter murdered to set things right after killing Davey Sanchez. This is known to be the main incident that ultimately leads Harry to commit suicide. Although Dexter and Deb believed that Harry died of heart failure, he actually couldn't deal with the harsh reality of Dexter murdering people, even when they were in line with the code. Harry overdosed on heart medication, which caused his death.

Why Harry let Dexter and Debra believe he died of heart disease for so many years

He probably didn't want Dexter to know it had anything to do with him

Harry Morgan (Christian Slater) waves his arm angrily in Dexter: Original Sin, season 1, episode 4

It was established at the beginning Dexter: Original Sin that Harry had heart problems that required him to be hospitalized, which introduced Dexter to his first kill, Nurse Mary. This will likely end up being a strong cover for Harry's eventual death, as it will be framed as an accidental overdose rather than suicide. Harry appears to be quietly struggling, not only because of his complex issues with Dexter creating a serial killer vigilante, but also because of a major new detail involving his biological son, Junior. As revealed in Original sin debut, Harry lost a son who drowned in the family pool while watching a football match.

Harry also struggles with the pain of losing his wife, Doris, to cancer, which happens just before Original Sin takes place. These two huge deaths, combined with the guilt Harry carries for harboring Dexter's dark secrets and cheating on his wife with Dexter's mother, Laura Moser, place a huge burden on Harry's soul. Clearly, Harry couldn't just explain all of this to Dexter or Debra and had no one he could talk to, especially if his partner Bobby Watt, who appears to be Davey Sanchez's stand-in character, was also murdered. Harry has been surrounded by tragic deaths for most of his adult life and probably wanted to leave Dexter and Deb out of it.

When will Harry Morgan die in Dexter: Original Sin?

This could be how the season 1 finale

Based on trajectory Dexter: Original Sin so far, Harry will probably be the season 1 finale. The episode's original title was "Code Blues" - which suggests the hospital period associated with the way Dexter and Deb thought Harry died. The episode title, however, was changed to “Born This Way” at the time of writing. Dexter's narration also revealed that Harry lived for about another year after his first death.which may line up with the timeline of the finale. A clear indicator that Harry Morgan's end is near Dexter: Original Sin will be if Bobby Watt is killed and his killer is released.

Dexter: Original Sin explores the origins of Dexter Morgan as he goes from student to serial killer in 1991 Miami. Guided by his father, Dexter channels his dark desires through a moral code as he begins a forensic internship at the Miami Metropolitan Police Department.
