Original Sin has a big choice to make after New Blood's most divisive plot hole

Notice! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin episode 3 and Dexter: New Blood. Now this Dexter: Original Sin is in the works, it will soon have to resolve one of the biggest plot holes in the sequel series Dexter: New Blood. As a prequel series Dexter: Original Sin had the opportunity to revisit some of the original series and New bloodbiggest hits. It has already been proven that Dexter survived the end of New bloodand added a new twist to Dexter's first victim, Nurse Mary. As the series progresses, you will have even more chances to rewrite the beginning of Dexter Morgan's story, and you will also have the chance to rewrite a controversial part of New bloodthe story.

Dexter: New Blood It was controversial in many ways. Although it was better than the lumberjack ending DexterMany fans were unhappy with Dexter's death at Harrison's hands. One of his most surprising controversies, however, had nothing to do with Dexter's time in Iron Lake, New York, but rather his time in Miami on the original series. New blood introduced a subtly massive retcon that also created a huge plot hole, and Original sin now he has the chance to fix everything three years later.

Dexter: Original Sin Can Ignore or Duplicate New Blood's M99 and Ketamine Retcon

Original Sin has to choose to do M99 or Ketamine Dexter's Canon Tranqulizer

In the original show, Dexter almost always subdued his victims with an injection of M99, a powerful animal tranquilizer. There's an entire episode dedicated to explaining how Dexter got his hands on it and how he got around the DEA's restrictions on the drug. Dexter: New Bloodhowever, it retroactively changed the medication Dexter was using from M99 to ketamine, another type of sedative. It seems like a small change, but New bloodIndeed's ketamine retcon had some far-reaching implications for the show's sequel, as it was how Angela (Julia Jones) discovered that Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Now, Original sin finally has the chance to decide between ketamine and M99. Dexter is quickly establishing himself as a serial killer and will likely begin implementing some type of tranquilizer in his next kills. When this happens, Original sin can use M99 like the original series did or can reconfirm New bloodketamine use. The prequel series will have to make a decision either way, as it simply can't help but explain how Dexter started using tranquilizers. As the first addition to Dexter franchise since New bloodwhatever Original sin chooses will become official canon.

Dexter: Original Sin's Patrick Bateman References, Tips for Keeping Dexter's M99 Drug Choice

Dexter registered as Patrick Bateman, MD to purchase M99 in the original series

Vince Masuka (Alex Shimizu) shows a fake ID with Dexter's face and the name Patrick Bateman in Dexter: Original Sin episode 3

Fortunately, there is already an important tip on how Original sin will handle the debate between ketamine and M99. In Original sin episode 3, Dexter began using the alias Patrick Bateman, which is the name of the fictional serial killer in American Psycho. He had Masuka (Alex Shimizu) print him a fake ID with his name on it, and also used it on Tony Ferrer, his second victim. Patrick Bateman is also the name Dexter used to circumvent DEA restrictions on M99 distribution in the original series, which seems to suggest that Original sin will stick with the original medicine.

There is also a chance that Original sin could fully resolve the debate between M99 and ketamine. The prequel show could go back to M99 and then offer an explanation for why Angela's quest in New blood connected the Bay Harbor Butcher to ketamine. M99 is often referred to as etorphine and is chemically similar to ketamine, so Original sin could introduce the idea that Miami Metro simply confused etorphine with ketamine during the initial investigation of the Bay Harbor Butcher. This, ironically, would retroactively remove New bloodIt's ketamine retcon. Dexter: Original Sin could make the franchise more cohesive than it has been for three years.
