Origin of Blood? His character and relationship with Ciri explained

Taking place twelve hundred years before the events of The wizard TV show, The Witcher: Blood Origin tells the story of seven elves and their fight against a corrupt empire, and Avallac’h (Samuel Blenkin) is an important figure. Debuting on Netflix in 2022, Origin of Blood is a very loose adaptation of the book by Andrzej Sapkowski Wizard novels and focuses on the seven warriors who fight against the Golden Empire. Most of the characters in Origin of Blood are original creations for the series, but there is a supporting character who also appears in The wizard books and video games: Avallac’h.

While The Witcher: Blood Origin is a miniseries, Netflix’s first series, The wizard is in progress. The next Wizard Season 4 will see Liam Hemsworth replace Henry Cavill as protagonist Geralt of Rivia. While this revamp is already drawing ire, The wizard season three prepared viewers for a fascinating next installment. What if the end credits scene of The Witcher: Blood Origin If there are any indications, Avallac’h could very well make an appearance.

Avallac’h is a wizard and protector of Merwyn

He is also seen spying on a young Ciri in The Witcher: Blood Origin End Credits Scene

Introduced in The Witcher: Blood Origin episode 2, “Of Dreams, Defiance, and Desperate Deeds,” the learned wizard Avallac’h rescues Empress Merwyn of an assassination attempt. Immediately gaining his trust, Merwyn names Avallac’h his protector and orders him to spy on Balor and Eredin. She also summons Avallac’h to steal Balor’s book about the monoliths.

Using the book, they unlock the secrets to traveling through the monolith’s portals to other worlds. Avallac’h is one of the few elves in Xin’trea whose motivations are not political but academic. His study of the Book of Monoliths leads him to the discovery of time travel, a prospect that leaves his academic mind reeling.

Although the end of The Witcher: Origin of Blood sees the fall of Merwyn and Balor, Avallac’h is one of the few survivors after the bloody coup and the Conjunction of the Spheres. In the end credits scene of the final episode, Avallac’h spies on a young Ciri of Cintra.

It appears that Avallac’h has unlocked the magic of time travel, which has a big role to play in the episodes of The wizard. It is likely that the elf wizard knows of Ciri’s blood ties to Lara Dorren and the power she holds. What he plans to do with this knowledge remains to be seen.

Avallac’h and Ciri’s relationship explained in the Witcher books

He believes Ciri is a savior

Avallac'h in the Witcher video games

In the fourth book by Andrej Sapkowski Wizard saga, The Swallow Tower, Geralt meets Avallac’h in his ongoing quest to find Ciri. Avallac’h tells Geralt about the Prophecy of Ithlinne, an ancient elven legend that predicts the end of the world. He believes that Ciri is linked to the prophecy and that she is the only one who can save the world from disaster.. When he later meets Ciri in the book The Lady of the LakeAvallac’h convinces her to marry the Aen Elle king, Auberon, promising her freedom once she produces an heir.

Avallac’h’s interest in Ciri goes beyond her magical ability. In fact, Ciri’s relationship with the elf sorceress Lara Dorren is personal to Avallac’h. Legend has it that Lara fell in love with a human named Cregennan of Lod, also a powerful wizard. However, before meeting Cregennan, Lara was engaged to Avallac’h, who loved her deeply.

Avallac’h’s feelings towards Ciri are conflicted between her being a descendant of the woman he loved and being the savior of the elves. He uses Ciri to further Aen Elle’s cause despite her wishes, but he also cares about her like a father. How does this happen in The wizard – if that ever happens – remains to be seen, although Season 4 would be better at including the riveting The Witcher: Blood Origin character.

Set in an elven world 1,200 years before the world of The Witcher, The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first Witcher prototype and the events leading up to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres”, when the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged to become one.
