5-star raids with Legendaries are some of the most challenging bosses Pokemon GO players can expect to face, and Origin Forme Dialga and Origin Forme Palkia are no exception. Dialga and Palkia’s special forms are native to the region of Hisui, the original name for Sinnoh, and these versions are equally, if not more, powerful. Additionally, Origin versions also have access to exclusive and strong films. As with every other powerful enemy in the latest Raid schedule for Pokemon GOyou will need the right selection of tuned counters to win.
Both Origin Palkia and Origin Dialga have weaknesses, just like their base versions, so there’s plenty of room for strategy for you and any other players you want to partner with. Dual typing each Legendary gives them a wide moveset, so you need to make sure you don’t pick a counter that can be quickly eliminated by itself. The chance to defeat and capture these Legendaries is one of the highlights of playing during the All into the Wild event, so you won’t want to miss out.
Origin Forme Dialga Moveset and Weaknesses
A wide selection to look at
In Pokemon GOOrigin Forme Dialga has two weaknesses: Fighting and Ground-type attacks. Just like the basic Dialga, these two attack types deal 160% damage. Thanks to its dual typing Dragon and Steel, it has many resistances, including Bug, Electric, Flying, Normal, Psychic, Rock, Steel and Water, which means that any move of these types only deals 63% damage. For casual players, this really narrows down the selection of counters you can use against this type of boss, but there are plenty of decent non-legendary options you can find listed below.
Origin Forme Dialga is even more resistant to Grass and Poison type attacks, dealing only 39% damage to the boss compared to normal. This is one of the reasons why Dialga is considered better than Palkia. Additionally, Dialgia has a wide selection of attacks in its moveset. In addition to Metal Claw, the Temporal Pokémon can also use Dragon Breath for its quick attacks. As for Charged Attacks, Dialga’s Origin Form can use Iron Head, Thunder, Draco Meteor and the exclusive move, Roar of Timewhich has a whopping 160 damage rating.
Origin Forme Palkia Moveset and Weaknesses
Lots of type coverage
Just like Dialga, Origin Forme Palkia has two weaknesses, but they are instead Fairy and Dragon-type attacks in Pokemon GOdue to its double Dragon and Water typing. Both types of attacks also deal 160% damage to both forms of Palkia, although it does not have as many resistances as Dialga. It’s easy to think that being part Water-type would make Palkia weak to Electric moves, but its Dragon side cancels that out. In-game, Origin Forme Palkia is 63% resistant to Steel attacks, while only taking 39% damage from Water and Fire type moves.
You will need a Raid group of at least three players to beat Origin Palkia or Dialga. However, five players would be the safest bet.
The Origin Forme has the same moveset as the base Palkia, except for its exclusive movement, Spacial Rend. The Space Pokémon can use two Dragon-type moves as quick attacks, Dragon Breath and Dragon Tail. As for Charged Attacks, along with Spatial Rend, he can also use Aqua Tail, Fire Blast, Hydro Pump, and Draco Meteor.
Best Origin Forme Dialga counters
Combat and land types
The best counters to defeat Origin Forme Dialga’s attack in Pokemon GO include reliable combat and ground types such as Feromosa, Lucarioand Landorus. The key behind each counter is that you need to choose a Pokémon of those types that can also use moves of those same types, resulting in a STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) of 1.2x. In long, drawn-out battles against 5-star bosses, you need as much extra damage as possible in the allotted time.

What you need to avoid is using counterattacks that may have a reliable moveset, but are fragile due to being weak to one of Dialga’s attacks. For example, Terrakion is, in theory, one of the biggest DPS counters you could use against Origin Forme Dialga, but its dual Rock and Fighting typing makes it vulnerable to the boss’s Steel-type Iron Head. It’s much more effective to use the counters from the list above so that you have a long-lasting team that can also deplete Dialga’s health at the same time.
Best Origin Forme Palkia counters
Fairy about Dragon
The best counters to take into battle against Origin Forme Palkia in Pokemon GO are Fairy-type or those who can use Fairy-type attacks, including Xurkitree, Gardevoirand Hattereno. Xurkitree is a pure Electric-type, but its high Attack stat as an Ultra Beast makes it a powerhouse when using the Fairy-type’s Dazzling Gleam. For other members, it’s ideal to use Fairy-types using the same attack form, so you can get that essential STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus).

If you have powerful dragon types in your arsenal rather than any of the fairy alternatives on this list, they can still be useful. However, you should note that any Dragon type you use will be vulnerable to Palkia’s four Dragon-type moves. Spacial Rend is his most powerful attack at 160 damage, so he will quickly eliminate the likes of Salamence or Garchomp. However, remember to fight Origine Forme Dialga and Palkia with counters that target their respective weaknesses to Fighting and Ground, along with mostly Fairy for the latter, and victory in this Pokemon GO The attack will be yours.
