On September 7 and 8, 2024, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Community celebrated the annual World Championship in Seattle, Washington, USA during this weekend, the world’s best duelists fought hard to be crowned as the indisputable champion. In the end, an American player named Ruben Penaranda rose to the top thanks to the deck of a favorite GX Character, Jubilee.
Thanks to the new support released in the same year, the strategy used by Jaden’s partner and guardian was a completely unreliable deck against the best in the world. After more than two decades, one of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Anime series characters have proven to be the strongest in the world.
Yubel Fiendsmith has become the most powerful deck of 2024 so far
The new support pushed the deck to the top
Yuval is one of Yu-Gi-Oh! GXs most iconic characters, due to their role as the dark Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Season 3’s main antagonist and later partner with the protagonist Jaden. Their story is one of pain, as their young master abandoned them for being too overprotective and dangerous. Yubel’s desire for revenge was present in their deck, which circled around to summon themselves and their 2 evolutions to the field. Each of the monsters has the effect of preventing any damage to their user, destroying monsters that attacked them, and causing effect damage to the opponent.

For many years, the Jubilee deck remained one of the franchise’s weakest, as their most powerful monsters were difficult to challenge and keep on the field for long. In 2024, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh!Konami released several booster packs to revitalize old strategies. Among them, a set of cards named Phantom Nightmare, based on Yubel, was introduced. This booster contains cards that helped the deck of this iconic villain overcome his weaknesses.
With a monster that can be special summoned when a direct attack is declared, two amazing fusions, and defensive spells and traps, Yubel has everything it needs to shine. The strategy became even stronger thanks to the Fiendsmith, a small but powerful archetype that would give the deck more opportunities to summon powerful monsters, protect themselves from opponent’s effects and search for the cards they need. Since the release of this new support, Yubel’s deck has continuously seen amazing competitive success, with Penaranda using it to become the best duelist in the world in 2024.
Yubel is the first GX character to achieve such a feat
No other deck has come close to winning a World Championship
Despite many strategies of the second series of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime has been given support over the years, like these Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan-favorite Saber Dragons, no one has ever been this successful. Jubilee’s deck is the first of this beloved series to not only remain as one of the most powerful decks in many important events, but also defeat all others during the world championship. After 20 years of waiting, a GX deck has finally become the best in the world.
Yu-Gi-Oh! is a game that is constantly evolving, with no deck remaining the best for too long. As such, there is no telling which strategy could win the world championship of 2025. Most anime’s favorite and iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! Decks, like Dark Magician, could be just a couple of cards away from taking the crown of Jaden’s Guardian in the future.
