One Horizon actor overshadows Kevin Costner and Part 2 needs more of them

Kevin Costner may be the mastermind behind his Western epic, however Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 Needs more than one actor who overshadows his performance during Chapter 1. The idea for the western epic began for Costner in 1988Which led to him directing, writing, producing and starring in the planned four-part saga. Despite Chapter 1s poor performance at the box office, earning only $36.1 million against a $50 million budget, Horizon: An American SagaThe cast delivers many strong performances, bringing the Civil War era Midwest to life.

While Horizon – Chapter 1 Received lukewarm reviews, with many criticizing its plodding pace and unfocused story, the performances of Costner and other stars gained praise. Some of the more memorable images include Costner as horse trader Hayes Ellison, Sam Worthington as Union soldier Trent Gephardt, and Sienna Miller as survivor Frances Kittredge. The strongest performance in the Western epic does not come from Costner, But instead Jenna Malone, who stars as Lucy. The character is introduced early in the movie, a runaway from Montana introduced by shooting her settlement’s leader, James Sykes (Charles Halford) and escaping with her baby son, Sam. She ends up settling in a small trading town, marrying businessman Walter Childs (Michael Angarano) and taking in sex worker Marigold (Abby Lee). Changing her name to Ellen Harvey, she seeks to hide from the Sykes people and raise her son in a better environment.

However, her fate remains unclear, as she finally shows half way through Chapter 1With no clear resolution around what happens to you.

Lucy’s storyline in Horizon: An American Saga Draws intrigue because of how many missing pieces remain. While Jacob is the father of her son, and potentially the reason she left, ieIt is still unclear why she believed that Sam being raised by the Sykes family would offer a better life for him. The level of intrigue continues as her new life is shown, adding intrigue that simply isn’t there yet with the wandering gunslinger Hayes Ellison, whom Costner portrays. Malone’s Lucy is also made more interesting because of how her decision to hide from Sykes plays out.

Despite the intrigue surrounding Lucy, her story in Horizon: An American Saga It ends with her accompanying Walter to a business meeting, only to learn that it is being held by Caleb and Junior Sykes. Walter was killed in the ensuing conflict, meanwhile Lucy is seemingly captured and taken back to the settlement she escaped from. However, her fate remains unclear, as she finally shows half way through Chapter 1With no clear resolution around what happens to you. It seems that she is not dead, however, because her body is never seen when the Sykes brothers bury her husband.

As for Sam, he is taken in by Hayes and Marigold after the trader realizes Lucy’s family is being targeted by the Sykes. While on the run, Marigold eventually delivered the baby to a Chinese family before leaving Costner’s character in the middle of the night. With Lucy’s child now in the hands of strangers, it is unclear how James or his wife (Dale Dickey) will react to her return. Given the importance the child played in the recovery operation, It seems like there may be a much deeper story to the runaway that has yet to be explored.

Since her life will be in danger, she would need to make a desperate escape attempt again. This time, however, she may need to do more than shoot to hurt if she wants to be freed for good.

Because Lucy is the most interesting character in the movie, seeing her story continue is a key reason why Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 Needs a wider release beyond its Venice Film Festival debut. Although Costner’s acting role in the movie is noteworthy, It’s Malone’s character that really steals the show with her intriguing storyline about escape and redemption. Although it is unclear how her tale will continue, hopefully Chapter 2 will provide the necessary answers to flesh out her story and provide an update on her fate.
