The project is co-directed by Edmund Stenson and Daniel Roher, who won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature with 2022’s. Navalnyon which Stenson served as associate editor. The duo follows the Pelletier family, who take their four children on a global adventure after three of them are diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa.

The rare, incurable disorder leads to permanent vision loss, which is why parents Edith Lemay and Sébastien Pelletier sought to share the wonders of the world with their young children before it was too late. As written in BlinkThe family soaked in the breathtaking sights before them while also grappling with the reality of the challenges ahead. It’s a moving tale that perfectly incorporates National Geographic’s love of the natural world with the human interest stories that are often at the heart of Disney’s work.

Blink already received acclaim at its Telluride premiere earlier this year, and is creating even more buzz due to being the first feature film since Roher Navalny Sweepstakes award points. Check out Screen Rants exclusive clip above and read on to learn a little more about the Pelletier family.

National Geographic’s Blink is a powerful story about familial love

The clip offers a lighthearted look at the Pelletier family vacation, as Edith yells at the kids in French to keep quiet while she takes a photo. Her experience as a former resort activity coordinator certainly lends itself to making plans for very small troupes, and her position as the unofficial trip photographer leads her to often be found behind the camera rather than in the pictures.

The reason she took so many shots, she reveals, is that “With very little central vision, you can still see images.” The hope is that her children will go back through the evidence of their trip and remember all the vivid and beautiful details without having to recall the awkward lawsuits or extra work they went through in the moment. Hilarious, the point was emphasized by one Of the children who complain about the total number of photographs.

While the National Geographic documentary film focuses on Edith and Sébastien, their kids are all equally important participants with their own personalities. Mia (13) loves leadership and dancing, Léo (11) is a Dungeons & Dragons fan who loves books, Colin (9) is a soccer fan with a shy streak, and Laurent (7) is the class clown. Despite the diagnosis, the Pelletiers prove to be a loving family who find joy in the world around them, and Blink Will make sure that joy is never forgotten.
