Matlock Season 1, Episode 8, 'No, No Monsters' includes a scene of Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) that sets up greater heartbreak for Madeline (Kathy Bates) in the future. Matlock Episode 8 puts Madeline back on her revenge plans when Olympia pulls her away from the latest Wellbrexa case because she wants her help defending a nanny who was falsely accused of abusing one of her charges. This puts Madeline in the middle of Olympia and Julian's (Jason Ritter) latest conflict, leading to a tense confrontation.
Julian fights Olympia by telling Madeline to keep an eye on his wife to make sure she doesn't get emotional and sabotage herself or the case. While Madeline ignores the request, Olympia is upset to learn this, telling her partner, “A true friend would have told me.“Fortunately, they make up Matlock end of episode 8, with Olympia making it clear that Madeline's friendship means a lot to her.
Olympia makes it clear that betrayal is something she cannot tolerate in episode 8 of Matlock
His anger at Madeline's perceived betrayal foreshadows future problems
Throughout the episode, Olympia makes it clear that betrayal is her limit. She can't bear the thought that Madeline might have heard Julian's request to keep an eye on her. Beyond that, though, she's more hurt that Madeline didn't tell her what Julian said. At this point, Olympia's problem isn't really with Bates' character, but with Julian, who betrayed her in the worst way possible by cheating on her and who is now trying to turn Madeline against her with this kind of request.
Olympia's anger at Madeline for not telling her what Julian said is also a product of how much she likes her associate. It's not easy for Olympia to trust someone or truly let them into her world, especially after Julian's betrayal. However, she has a special affinity with Madeline and doesn't want to lose their friendship. This could become a problem for Madeline as she proceeds with her revenge plan, especially since she also genuinely likes her boss. That being said, Olympia's comments make it clear that the revenge plan puts their friendship at risk.

Matlock's best relationship is at risk
Olympia can barely handle Madeline ignoring Julian's request without telling her, so it's not hard to imagine how much more hurt she would be when she inevitably discovers her friend's betrayal. Madeline's entire identity in Jacobson Moore is based on lies, including her name. The only thing she told Olympia that has any truth is that she is taking care of her 12-year-old grandson after his mother's death. That's why, when Madeline's revenge plan on Matlock come out, Olympia will feel equally betrayed as she does by Julian, and this may be impossible for her to forgive.
Olympia may want to maintain the business relationship just to protect herself.
Olympia's vulnerability with Madeline in Matlock makes Madeline's eventual betrayal even worse. Effectively, Olympia will once again be left with the feeling that she cannot trust anyone and that she is better off alone. It's possible that Olympia will identify with Madeline's sense of justice and join forces with her to expose the corrupt people at Jacobson Moore. However, even if she is willing to do this, Olympia may want to maintain the business relationship just to protect herself.
