A reference to Scarlet Witch in Deadpool and Wolverine has left MCU fans with a lot of hope, but the real explanation behind it makes its theory a little more complicated. The metanature of Dead Pool the trilogy has always allowed for references in ways that other Marvel films can’t. The final film in the trilogy was no different, featuring plenty of shocking cameos and Easter eggs. One of the scenes full of most exciting references was the heroes’ hideout in the Void.
Home to Elektra, Blade, Gambit, and X-23 when Deadpool and Wolverine first meet them, the team’s living quarters feature memorabilia from different universes and timelines. The documentary Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine pointed out some of these Easter eggs, but one of them the most eye-catching piece is undoubtedly the huge statue of Wanda Maximoff thrown into the ceiling. Eager fans saw this as a hint at Wanda’s return in the MCU, but the documentary offers a different explanation that puts the theory in a new light.

According to Deadpool and Wolverine production designer Raymond Chan, he was instructed to include as many Easter eggs as possible in the heroes’ hideout to honor fans. The references ended up including the skull bed where Hulk sleeps on Sakaar during Thor: Ragnarok and a table that Carol Danvers has on her ship during The wonders. What Chan talked about most, though, was Wanda’s statue in the ceiling, which he was inspired to include after seeing her 25-foot-tall statue in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
It’s impressive that Chan and his team were able to find a way to incorporate the large statue of Mount Wundagore. Fans wanted this clear reference to Scarlet Witch to be Marvel’s way of teasing her return, and if it had just been her ceiling casting included as an Easter egg, there might have been more weight to this theory. However, several other characters’ belongings are also present in the hideout, meaning that Wanda’s Easter egg shouldn’t be its own moment, but rather part of the collective reference.
Scarlet Witch’s MCU return is still possible – but it’s not easy
Just because the Deadpool and Wolverine The Scarlet Witch reference wasn’t a real hint, it doesn’t mean her return to the MCU is impossible, but it definitely won’t be easy. The recent launch of Agatha all the time throws yet another wrench into the theory of return. Many fans predicted that the show would be where Marvel would set up Wanda’s return through her son Billy. It was later revealed that this was not his wish for the Witch Road, and in fact, he didn’t have much of a connection with his supposed mother.
Scarlet Witch has been confirmed dead in the MCU and her reincarnated son currently has no intention of trying to bring her back. Combined with the real explanation behind it Deadpool and Wolverine Easter Egg, Wanda fans may be losing hope. However, anything is possible in the multiverse, and It looks like Marvel is slowly hinting at his real return. It may not happen as quickly as some would like, but she could very well play an important role in the culmination of the Multiverse Saga.
