Our take on Nosferatu’s runtime

No good movie ever feels too long

Emma Corrin looks terrified in Nosferatu

Movies have become increasingly longer in recent years, with even comic book movies often exceeding the two-hour mark. 2 hours and 12 minutes might be a little long for a horror film, at a time when most horror directors try to keep it under 2 hours, but it’s not a noticeably long running time compared to something like IT Chapter 2which lasted an absurd 2 hours and 49 minutes.

Eggers undoubtedly had good reason to go beyond the 2-hour mark when telling his version of a vampire story. If his opinion Nosferatus It’s really attractive, those 2 hours and 12 minutes will fly by. On the other hand, for a film as disturbing as Nosferatus seems to be, less is usually more when it comes to runtime. Asking viewers to sit still and be scared for more than 2 hours is generally not a good idea, as the psychological tension of horror tends to dissipate as the film progresses.

There are some classic long horror films, of course, notably The Shining and Rosemary’s Babybut it’s generally better to keep things under control when trying to scare the audience. Eggers is very skilled at unnerving his audience, however, and his Nosferatus sounds like another unique and frightening experience.
