No way Home Credits Scene Retcon

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Venom: The Last Dance.

Venom: The Last Dance gave the perfect answer to the confusion caused by the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Hardy made his MCU debut as Eddie Brock in Spider-Man: No Way Homehaving been drawn into the 616 universe by Doctor Strange's original failed spell, although he did not join the battle at the Statue of Liberty. Instead, Eddie Brock drank at a bar in Mexico and was briefed on a brief history of the MCU by Cristo Fernández's bartender, and this scene was repeated again in Venom: The Last Dance opening moments.

Eddie Brock and Venom's brief stint in the world of the MCU caused some confusion and drew criticism, as it was reversed as quickly as it was established at the end of 2021 Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Venom didn't leave any mark on the MCU and, most notably, didn't cross paths with Tom Holland's Spider-Man, which was seriously disappointing. Hilariously, Venom: The Last Dance addressed this criticism with a quick joke aimed at the multiverse which was delivered shortly after Venom returned to Sony's Spider-Man universe.

Venom 3's Multiverse Line Makes Particular Sense After No Way Home's Credits Scene Changes

Venom ended the multiverse

The initial moments of Venom: The Last Dance mirrored the final scene of Spider-Man: No Way Homemeeting Eddie Brock at the bar in Mexico in the MCU's 616 universe. However, he was hastily returned to SSU by Doctor Strange's memory-wiping spell, where he prepared a drink and began to evade the Xenophages sent by Knull. Being pushed back to his home reality, Venom stated: “I’m sick of this multiverse shit,” which resembles Deadpool joking about the MCU's lackluster Multiverse Saga projects in Deadpool and Wolverine.

This was a throwaway line from Venom, but it stood out as the perfect way to resolve the confusion caused by Spider-Man: No Way Home mid-credits scene. Firstly, Eddie Brock appearing in the MCU didn't make sense, as Doctor Strange's spell was supposed to bring characters who knew Spider-Man's true identity into the MCU, and Venom wasn't. It also didn't make sense for him to be returned the way he was, and it was a shame that he didn't get to meet Spider-Man during his visit. Venom declaring he was done with the multiverse certainly reflected the thoughts of many viewers.

Why Spider-Man: No Way Home Scrapped Venom 2's Post-Credits Scene So Quickly

Spider-Man: The turn of events at home was by no means disappointing

Venom seeing Tom Holland's Spider-Man in Venom Let There Be Carnage

It never made sense that Venom was dragged into the MCU by Doctor Strange's spell at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Let there be carnage the mid-credits scene was directed by Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts in conjunction with the MCU Phase 4 film, but there was no explanation as to how this could have been possible. Venom didn't know Spider-Man's identity, so it would have been weird to bring them togethermeaning it was more beneficial to simply reverse this and send Venom back home.

The multiverse seems even more important to Sony's story now more than ever

Knull will likely pose a threat to the entire multiverse

Knull with his head bowed in Venom The Last Dance

Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home mid-credits scenes and the opening moments of Venom: The Last Dancebasically had no impact The last dance any plot. While Venom can be done with the multiverse, the multiverse may not be done with him, especially now that Knull has been introduced to live action. In Marvel comics, Knull was dubbed the King in Black by the Celestials, tasked with keeping the multiverse from within, though he renounced this mission and decided to spread darkness..

It seems very likely that Knull will somehow be freed from the Symbiote-inflicted prison at some point in the future of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Since he poses such a huge multiversal threat in Marvel Comics, it's very possible that Knull will take on the same role in SSU.perhaps allowing him to bridge the gap between the SSU and the MCU. Knull and the multiverse could play a key role in the SSU's future, so Venom's multiverse line in Venom: The Last Dance Soon it might not be so funny.
