A major actor apparently has no intention of returning Doctor Who. The long-running show has been a dominant franchise for the BBC since its debut in 1963. It follows the ever-changing Doctor as he explores time and space, whilst encountering a variety of new companions and enemies along the way. Numerous stars appeared on the show throughout its run, including Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Neil Patrick Harris (how I Met Your Mother).
While you are in Inside You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) reflected on his own experience with the show. When asked if he would return to the franchise, Pegg quickly shot down the idea. His refusal was not firm, but he expressed that he was not sure that reprisal was necessary. Check out his quote below:
I don’t know. I mean, I kind of feel, you know, because I played that character, I don’t know if I would come back and do it again.
Pegg may not return to the show
When he first entered the Doctor Who universe, Pegg played the Editor in 2005 season 1, episode 7, “The Long Game”. The story revolved around a futuristic broadcast satellite, which controlled news, game shows, and other TV programs from the human empire. The Editor appeared to be entirely responsible for the network’s broadcasts, but it was later revealed that he worked for the inhuman Jagrafess. The Editor was killed along with the Jagrafess, allowing humanity to free itself from its subservience to the alien creature. After leaving the show, Pegg did not appear again.
While he may not currently have any interest in returning to the show, that could change if he gets the right opportunity.
Of course, Pegg’s comments weren’t entirely definitive. He kept repeating “I don’t know“When considering a potential new role. While he may not currently have any interest in returning to the show, that could change if he gets the right opportunity. It would also need to work around his schedule. Pegg has starred in many films and shows, so finding time to Making another appearance in the classic British sci-fi hit would undoubtedly be a challenge for him. If a perfect role doesn’t present itself, he’s unlikely to agree.
Our Take on Simon Pegg’s Doctor Who Decision
Pegg is making the right decision
As much as it would be fun to see Pegg return, he has no real motivation for it. He’s already left his mark on the series and has been involved in several other beloved sci-fi projects. He worked on Star Wars, Star Trek, The boysand countless others. Returning to Doctor Who it would be an exciting prospect, but he would probably just take on another one-off role that would be forgotten in a few years, as was The Editor. Pegg has already proven his worth. The payoff is probably not worth the hassle of scheduling and organizing production.
