Night Court Stars Melissa Rauch and Lacretta in More Big Bang Theory Reunions and Main Character’s Exit from Season 3

Night Court season three premieres November 19 on NBC and releases new episodes weekly on Tuesdays. His return was highly anticipated after the big cliffhanger at the end of season 2. “The Best Dan” finds Abby (Melissa Rauch) and Jake (Ryan Hansen) trying to keep their relationship casual despite having serious feelings for each other. It becomes evident in Roz’s (Marsha Warfield) marriage that they both want to embrace what’s between them, regardless of the risk.

However, the real twist in the story comes when Jake talks about his absent father, and Abby discovers a possible connection between her mother and Dan. A rather indicative scene shows Jake and Dan paralleling each other, immediately making Abby wonder if her boyfriend’s father It was in front of them the whole time. The credits roll seconds after Flobert sighs next to the judge and says what he’s thinking out loud to the audience.

TelaRant participates in a roundtable with stars Melissa Rauch and Lacretta about what fans can expect in the Night Court season 3. And yes, this reporter asked about that shocking ending, but the answer remains a secret.

Rauch and Lacretta discuss Wendie Malick’s new role as prosecutor in Night Court Season 3

“It’s going to be different and a little bit the same.”

ScreenRant: We know that, unfortunately, Beaufort’s India is not returning to Night Court season 3. Is there anything you can share about how the show might handle Olivia’s absence?

Melissa Rauch: We find out in the season premiere what Olivia is up to and we’re off to the races with Wendie [Malick] in that episode when she comes in as the new prosecutor.

ScreenRant: Olivia and Gurgs had a fun dynamic, so how will Gurgs’ relationship with Wendie’s character compare?

Lacretta: It will be different and a little the same. I’m also excited to see how she grows with the rest of the cast. I always like different combinations of, “Now, can I spend some time with Gary? Can I spend some time with Wendie? Can I spend some time with Nyambi?” I always want to spend time with Melissa. And I went to spend time with John and see if Gurgs can destroy his stoic exterior.

Rauch Promises More Big Bang Theory Reunions in Night Court Season 3

“They are my brothers and sisters and I love them very much.”

CinemaBlend: Lacretta, one of my favorite jokes from last season was Gurgs and Christopher Meloni starring Bailiff: the musical.

Lacretta: And I retweeted and reposted hoping he would see it and maybe reach out and say something, but he’s a busy guy. Your team is a busy team. But Christopher, if you want, Mr. Meloni, if you want to come and guest star on Night Court, I think that would be really cool. And considering I did an episode of SVU years and years ago, this would just be a full circle moment for me.

CinemaBlend: Would you be interested in singing Night Courtperiod? With or without Christopher Meloni?

Lacretta: Yes, with or without. My voice is that of the Night Court.

ScreenRant: Melissa, you had an on-screen reunion with Kunal Nayyar last season. Is there any other The Big Bang Theory cast members you’d like to see come on board?

Melissa Rauch: There will be some Big Bang faces this season. We can’t officially say yet, but I promise you more Big Bang faces will come. They are my brothers and sisters and I love them very much. So everyone is welcome, but I’m excited to have some more mini Big Bang reunions happening.

ScreenRant: What was it like playing such a different dynamic with Kunal than before?

Melissa Rauch: Oh my God. It was really fun. We hadn’t seen each other. We talked all the time, but we hadn’t actually been physically on set together since the Big Bang, so we were looking at each other the whole time. “I can’t believe you’re here! I can’t believe you’re real!” I couldn’t stop hugging him. I was so, so excited to be with him.

And it was funny because obviously we had to kiss in that episode, which we had done before – I think it was in the third or fourth season of [The Big Bang Theory]. One of the first episodes, but we had to have a very intimate moment of kissing. And my husband, who is also an executive producer, was on the set and is also a close friend of Kunal. It was so funny to see him say, “You should go harder on that kiss! Get into it!” [Laughs] He was directing how passionately Kunal and I should be kissing.

Rauch and Lacretta are open to different romantic relationships for their Night Court characters

“I think there’s great chemistry with this whole wonderful cast, and I could see if we wanted to explore that at some point.”

Rhys Darby as Alistair and Lacretta as Gurgs in Night Court season 2, episode 12, "The Duke is a danger".

ScreenRant: Lacretta, I was so excited that we finally met the Duke in season two. Will we continue to see this relationship play out?

Lacretta: I’m open to whatever those possibilities are. It’s great to see Gurgs’ progression and reign over his love life. I don’t know a lot of things, and that’s good because I’m chatty. I get excited. I just want to tell people. I’ll just see what happens as the episodes unfold. So I can’t say yes or no, but whatever magic you want to create with us, I’m totally open to [it].

CinemaBlend: Speaking of relationships, Jake was a fun addition to Season 2. What were you looking for as a producer, Melissa, when casting someone to play this role?

Melissa Rauch: That’s a great question. When we originally cast Jake as the HR rep, it was just kind of a one-off episode of, “Oh, this will be a fun story to tell.” The writers had the great idea of having an HR rep that Abby has a crush on. We really thought it was just going to be that one episode.

But Ryan came in and was so wonderful and funny and a joy to work with. We all fell in love with him instantly and didn’t want to let him go. We were like, ‘I think Abby should start dating him for real. This shouldn’t just be Abby having a crush on the HR guy. This is really just a testament to Ryan’s talent and the overall awesomeness that has blossomed into more.

ScreenRant: I feel like Abby and Wyatt also complement each other well. When I spoke to Nyambi last season, he said he would be on board with a potential romance. Melissa, I’m curious to hear your opinion.

Melissa Rauch: You know what? I love that. And you never know. I think there’s great chemistry with this entire wonderful cast, and I could see if we wanted to explore that at some point. He’s been a wonderful addition to this squad, having him come in last year was so perfect. He’s so funny and so talented. That would be fun. Never say Never!
