Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Grotesquerie Season 1, Episode 10!Grotesque star Nicey Nash-Betts addressed questions about the titular killer’s identity while teasing the show’s future after the season one finale. The FX horror mystery has had many twists and turns throughout its history, with GrotesqueThe biggest twist came in episode 7, when it was revealed that everything that had happened up to that point was part of Lois’ (Nash-Betts) dreams. However, in the Season 1 finale, Megan (Micaela Diamond) takes Lois to a crime scene similar to the Last Supper murder in her vision, where Charlie (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) was crucified like Jesus.
Talking to TV line, Nash-Betts explained how mysterious Grotrquerie is stillwith the show’s mysteries and the killer’s identity still unsolved. The star hopes the second season will unravel the mystery of the killer, especially after Dr. Witticomb (Santino Fontana) tried to indicate that the murders were “an amalgamation of all evils…in [her] mind.” She hopes a follow-up season will be announced, joking that she doesn’t just want to hear about the planned story over dinner with creator Ryan Murphy. Check out what Nash-Betts had to say below:
You don’t even know who Grotesquerie is yet. That’s a big unanswered question.
The main thing I think I’m looking forward to [in a potential second season] Yeah, who is Grotesquerie? In therapy, the doctor says that the Grotesque is an amalgam of all the evils that have happened in the world in [her] mind, but then these crimes literally start happening. …There are still some questions I’m waiting to be answered, and if everything is perfect, we would have a Season 2 to unpack. If not, that means I’ll be sitting at dinner with Ryan for hours, telling me where he plans to take this story.
What Nicey Nash-Betts’ statement means for the future of the Grotesquerie
There’s a lot of potential for season two
Although the series has had a lot of development surrounding the symbolism of its murder mystery, the characters in Grotesque have not yet been fully explored after Lois wakes up from her coma. This new layer of the story is full of potentialespecially after episode 10’s reveal about all the male characters who are part of the mysterious Mexicali Men’s Club. Lois also apparently suspects who the titular killer is, something that could be early on in season two, with her thesis developing over time.
Given the murders that happen in real life directly reflect what Lois saw in her dreamsthe program needs to answer how she managed to know about these plans even though she was asleep. Is it possible that the killer in Grotequeria told her his plans while she slept, or something more supernatural was happening, his dreams premonitions about murders that have not yet happened. With many layers yet to be explored, the show could go in several directions to reveal what’s really at stake in their small town.
Our take on what the future of Grotesquerie could bring
The show needs a satisfying continuation
Given the lack of answers by the end of Season 1, the mystery horror series needs to provide some satisfying answers in season 2 to keep the intrigue alive. While Grotesque has a variety of complex elements going on at once, it sometimes left the first season unfocused, something that needs to be simplified to continue to spark interest in who the killer is. However, Nash-Betts is right that it would be unsatisfying if the show ended without answers, making the prospect of a second season a compelling idea.
All episodes of Grotesque they are now streaming on Hulu.
