Notice! Spoilers ahead for NCIS Season 22, Episode 9, “Humbug.”Nick Torres' Secret Girlfriend's Identity Teased By NCIS season 22 executive producer Steven D. Binder. CBS' longest-running series is returning to its procedural format after a jam-packed 21st season due to its shorter run. This means that NCIS season 22 has enough time to resolve cases that don't necessarily have a major impact on the series. It also allows the police procedural to advance certain personal plots of its main cast members. This includes Nick, who was revealed to be back dating in the NCIS season 22 midseason finale.
Talking to TV insiderBinder comments on the revelation that Nick is once again romantically involved. “Humbug” does not reveal who is leaving, generating fan theories and speculation. Although the producer remains tight-lipped about his identity, he shares new clues about who he might be. When asked if it is Jessica Knight's sister, Robinhe says that “I can neither confirm nor deny this rumor.” Read his full quote below:
I can say that we have seen this person before. This will be a character who has been on the series before and will be back and this will cause some problems with some members of his team – one in particular may or may not be related.
What Torres' potential relationship with Jessica's sister means for MCRT
It's curious what Jessica's reaction would be.
Robin is Jessica's younger sister. She only appeared in one episode, way back NCIS season 20, “Turkey Trot”. Despite her brief involvement on the show thus far, this fuels the rumor that she is actually the one Nick is seeing. However, since not much is known about her and the news of them dating comes as a shock in 'Humbug', it's hard to say when exactly they reconnected outside of the Navy Yard and started hanging out. By the looks of it, Jessica seems oblivious to the relationship between her sister and co-worker.
It's important to note, however, that Nick previously said NCIS season 22 that he is ready to date again after the traumatic end of his affair with Ellie Bishop. For context, the couple's relationship follows a long line of slow-burn police procedural romances. Unfortunately, despite their clear feelings for each other, Emily Wickersham's decision to leave the show effectively ended their connection. Unlike Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, there doesn't seem to be any chance of reconciliation, so Nick moving on makes sense.
Our Take on Torres' New Relationship in NCIS Season 22
It's a good way to expand your story beyond being part of MCRT
Ultimately, giving Nick a new love life is a good way to develop his personal story. Almost everyone at MCRT currently has something going on other than solving crimes for the organization. Even Parker has a mystery with Lily. However, with Nick's family drama already resolved in NCIS By season 21, he's pretty much resigned to being part of the agency, with almost no arc outside of the Navy Yard. Admittedly, seeing him date someone else would be difficult for those who root for him and Bishop, but Wickersham is gone and is unlikely to return.
