Star Wars fans spotted a mysterious new masked man in images from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
– is this another Marrok situation or is this character really important to the story? Helmets have been a kind of Star Wars tradition since Darth Vader made his debut in 1977. Sometimes they mean something, hiding a person’s true identity; sometimes they are meaningless, simply designed to look cool, as in the case of some Imperial Inquisitors. They always stand out and always lead to avid speculation.
The latest Skeleton Crew teaser features a mysterious masked man, leading to immediate speculation in the fandom. It is important to note that none Skeleton Crews pirates particularly feel like leaders right now, so this could well be the man in charge. But does this mask hide a secret identity or is it just another helmet design added simply for the “Rule of Cool”?
What The Masked Man Could Mean for Star Wars
Is Star Wars hiding another secret?
Fans would be wise not to make too much of this helmeted figure. Ahsokaafter all, it featured a mysterious masked inquisitor named Marrok, who became the subject of intense speculation in the weeks leading up to the show’s release. In the end, Marrok… was simply a deceased Inquisitor who was resurrected by the Nightsister’s magic and who was easily killed by Ahsoka in battle, his body dissipating into a green mist. Months of speculation proved fruitless because he didn’t want to say anything at all.
This does not mean, of course, that the same is true of the helmeted figure in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Unlike Marrok, this particular “masked man” has been retained, and this is the first we’ve seen of him – just two weeks before the show’s December 3 premiere. Perhaps he is actually a member of the Imperial Shadow Council? The Mandalorian Season 3 suggested that some pirates were in league with the resurgent Empire, which would tie this into the ongoing story nicely.
Our opinion on Skeleton Crew’s “Masked Man”
We’ll have to wait and see
Skeleton Crew comes out in just two weeks, on December 3rd, which means this really is the time for the show to show its hand and impress potential viewers. This alone seems to suggest that the reveal of the masked man is important and that this will be a character of some importance. Ultimately, it is unlikely Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will reveal more about him until the show premieres – so we’ll have to wait and see.
Skeleton Crew is a Disney+ original series set in the Star Wars universe. The series was created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford and tells the story of four children who must find their way home after becoming lost in the galaxy. The story takes place in the same period as The Mandalorian.
