New Scrubs update confirms that Revival thankfully avoided a very tempting mistake

With Rub season 10 is officially happening, speculation could begin in earnest about what the sitcom's revival will look like, and showrunner Bill Lawrence has already provided a big clue in that regard. All nine seasons of Rub aired between 2001 and 2010, with the final season attracting widespread criticism and leading to the show's cancellation. Part of the reason behind this was that not all doctors in Rub returned for the show's final run of episodes, but there were other factors.

The original Rub hospital was only demolished in 2011, but Rub season 9 even changed locations to a traditional soundstage instead using the surrounding building where the previous eight seasons were filmed. This contributed greatly to the new feel of the show, causing ratings and audience reception to plummet drastically. There are many who believe that it would be better to clean the Faculty of Medicine era since existence when the sitcom is revived, and Lawrence has now addressed that specific point of view.

Scrubs is right not to ignore Season 9, even though it was disappointing

Scrubs: Med School crashed and burned, but made important contributions to the canon

Bill Lawrence made it clear that Rub Season 9 will not be retconned as part of the sitcom's return, and everything that happened in the episodes will remain part of the series' main canon. While this is a divisive decision, it is the right decision to make overall. ONE Rub return would never be able to recapture the exact magic as in the first eight seasons, so putting all the pressure on returning to the same format as seasons 1 through 8 is unrealistic.

Rub season 9 was far below the standard fans expectedbut the episodes still came with big revelations that will impact Rub season 10 and possibly beyond. For example, JD (Zach Braff) and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) are married in Faculty of Medicinein addition to expecting a child. Although this could technically remain intact while getting rid of the rest Rub Season 9 tradition, this seems more than a little confusing for a sitcom. Nothing went wrong with any of the established characters, it's just that they weren't in Faculty of Medicine enough.

How Scrubs Can Incorporate Season 9 Characters Into the Revival

Med School interns must have already graduated

Talking to TV line on Rub season 9 newcomers, Lawrence stated that he is “not against seeing these people” in Rub season 10. He praises Faculty of Medicine stars like Kerry Bishé and Dave Franco, but also admits that perhaps cameos for them would be best overall. Lawrence makes a great point about the fact that Rub season 9 was set in a medical schooland so these interns will have graduated and moved on in the fifteen years since the program ended. However, there is no reason why they cannot pay a visit to Rub season 10.
