New Pokemon TCG Paperback Promo Cards Tease Upcoming Events, But Some Fans Have Found a Major Problem

Nine new promotional cards appeared in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocketgiving players a tantalizing tease of upcoming events. Mythical Island was officially launched in Pokémon TCG Pocketoffering players over 80 new cards to collect. Several of these cards look to shake up the metagame, including Celebi ex and its support card, Serperior. While Mythical IslandSince the game's cards are available in regular booster packs, eagle-eyed players have also noticed some new cards reserved for future promotional events.

The card dex now includes nine slots for new promotional cards, providing a taste of what players can expect over the next six weeks. The new cards include a new Pikachu promo card featuring Pikachu and all of the Kanto starter Pokémon, as well as an alt-art Blastoise card and an ex-Moltres card with alt-art. There is also new versions of Squirtle and Charmander with the Chansey stamp and promotional card versions of Eevee, Snivy, Cincchio and Volcarona. Pokémon TCG Pocket Upcoming Events Explained

Wonder Pick event and solo battle events are likely on the cards

The new promo cards are likely tied to several upcoming events that will likely model recent events. For example, Blastoise's full art card is likely tied to a new Blastoise solo battle event, where players face off against a computer-controlled deck headlined by Blastoise. Both Charmander and Squirtle are tied to an upcoming Wonder Pick event, based on the use of the Chansey seal. The new Pikachu card, due to the lack of a solo stamp, it will probably be January's Premium Pass card. We'll note that November's premium pass featured the same Pikachu card with different art.

The only real problem between these new cards is the new Moltres ex card. An ex of Lapras was used as the main giveaway for the first solo battle event, but that card was brand new and wasn't just an alternate art card. Moltres' ex is certainly powerful enough to justify his own event, although it seems a little surprising that a Pokémon The ex card is getting two “normal” variations as opposed to a new card with full art or alternate art.

Our Take: New Pokémon TCG Pocket Cards Should Keep Players Busy

Mythical Island and new promo cards just need to keep players busy until January

Between the new Mythical Isle cards and these new promotional cards, there should be enough new cards to keep players busy until the end of January. Mythical Island will be followed by a larger set in January 2025, according to datamines, so these promotional cards will be enough for prizes worth about three events.

The real question is how Pokémon TCG Pocket plans to celebrate its first holiday season and is planning new surprises outside of the already familiar Wonder Pick and Solo Battle events.
