What would it be Animal Crossing: New Horizons Do characters look like humans? An artist imagines the answer to this question by bringing the adorable animal characters from ACNH to the human world. The game is full of memorable animal characters, from the always cheerful dog Isabelle to the best/worst owner and tanuki, Tom Nook.
In a series of beautifully rendered drawings, the artist jollymalt (shared on Reddit by hobisiana) reimagines these characters as they would be if they were human. Each image shows a couple from the game, such as Isabelle and Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy, the Able sisters, Brewster and KK Slider, and several others.
The drawings perfectly capture the essence of each character, showcasing not only his design but also his personality, from Tom Nook’s recumbent yet alert posture and beer belly, to Leif’s iconic cheekbones and charming smile. Fans responded with overwhelming positivity to these depictions, with Redditor mad even calling them”THE best Animal Crossing human designs I’ve ever seen.“
Tom Nook and Isabelle as humans draw comparisons to icons from the 80s and 90s
Tom Nook played by Tom Selleck
While each of Jollymalt’s beautiful illustrations are accurate representations of the ACNH characters as humans, it was the duo of Tom Nook and Isabelle that caught the attention of fans. Reddit user kodiak film points what the Nook and Isabelle pair look like”a small-town police chief and his scatterbrained secretary.“ Several commentators also draw comparisons to David Lynch’s cult-favorite 1990s series Twin Peaks. Other comments praise Nook’s Tom Selleck mustache and Isabelle’s 80s hairstyle.
Another image shared in a comment by the original poster hobisiana gives fans a new look at the humanized Nook and Isabelle. This time, the artwork shows the two staring in confusion at a frothy beer and a gorgeous ice cream sundae in a tall glass. In the next panel, the drinks were switched to their correct owners, Isabelle gulping down the beer and Nook messily eating his candy. The adorable images of these and others really bring the characters to life as their human versions, with gorgeous artwork by Jollymalt.
Animal Crossing as humans has a lot of potential for cosplay
Fashion and silhouette translate better than a literal animal costume
Animal crossing has some of the most instantly recognizable characters thanks to their distinct style and memorable designs. The style is so distinct that it’s often easy to tell when a character belongs in the game. The designs drawn by Jollymalt show how they easily translate into human characters, while also retaining enough of their characteristics to keep them easy to recognize.
I don’t see Animal Crossing cosplay very often, perhaps because of the difficulty of translating an animal character into a human in costume. Thanks to Jollymart, it’s easier to imagine these beloved characters as humans. Using the fashion and silhouette of the character portrayed opens up many possibilities for cosplay ideas. At the very least, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a lot of beloved characters to adapt, and Jollymalt shows how this can be done effectively.
