New footage from the MCU’s Daredevil has me hopeful that Marvel is giving Matt Murdock a much-needed powers upgrade

Matt Murdock’s new MCU power set was teased in the first footage from Daredevil: Born Againwhich makes me very excited about the next Marvel Television series. After playing the Devil from Hell’s Kitchen in his solo Netflix series Recklessand The Defenders between 2015 and 2018, Charlie Cox officially returned as Matt Murdock in 2021 Spider-Man: No Way Home. Cox’s Daredevil is one of my favorite MCU heroes, so I was thrilled to see him return and to learn that he will embark on a new adventure in 2025. Daredevil: Born Again.

Matt Murdock’s Daredevil showed off more of his acrobatic skills in She-Hulk: Lawyer and Echobut I can’t wait Daredevil: Born Again to put even more attention on the Man Without Fear’s abilities. My hopes for Daredevil’s powers to take center stage have only been exacerbated by the release of new footage from the highly anticipated upcoming series.. Now that he’s officially in the hands of Marvel Studios, I’m sure more of Daredevil’s abilities will be showcased, and that makes me even more excited about the future of the MCU as a whole.

Daredevil’s superhuman powers will get more focus in Born Again

Daredevil Using Radar Sensor in Marvel's Future

On October 30, Marvel Studios released a short video featuring footage of the MCU’s upcoming Disney+ projects for the remainder of 2024 and 2025. Beside Iron Heart, Wonder Man and And if…? 3rd season, among others, I was elated to see Daredevil: Born Again get quite a bit of attention, and this new footage has me convinced that Matt Murdock’s more superhuman powers will get more focus than they’ve already done on Netflix. Daredevil was a more human and grounded hero on Netflix, but the full scope of his powers in live action is yet to be explored.

Most notably, I noticed that Marvel Studios’ Look ahead footage saw the image of Matt Murdock in his new Daredevil costume appear on a screen at the Time Variance Authority of Deadpool and Wolverine. In the scene, it appears that Daredevil uses his radar sense, allowing him to hear great distances, and a dolly zoom effect is used to physically show what Matt Murdock experiences when using this power. This effect has never been used on Netflix Reckless series, so I think Marvel Studios will physically demonstrate more of Daredevil’s powers in the MCU.

The MCU Has a Perfect Excuse to Change and Update Daredevil’s Marvel Powers

Daredevil has been a live-action hero for nearly a decade

In conjunction with the launch of Echo In January 2024, Marvel Studios confirmed that Netflix’s Defenders Saga shows, including Recklessare canon to the official MCU timeline. This made many think that Daredevil: Born Again will show Matt Murdock with very few changes from Recklessbut Marvel Studios has the perfect excuse to introduce many changes and a real evolution for Murdock. When the time comes Daredevil: Born Again premieres in March 2025, it has been seven years since Reckless Season 3 has endedwhich means there will be plenty of time for Daredevil to grow up.

Matt Murdock has shown a serious acrobatic upgrade since Reckless third season in projects such as She-Hulk: Lawyer and Echoand I can’t wait to see this continue in Daredevil: Born Again. Beyond just his physical abilities, however, I think this is the perfect opportunity for Daredevil to further hone his innate, superhuman powers.including its radar sense, which was only briefly mentioned in Reckless. It also makes me think that more of Daredevil’s superhuman senses and reflexes will be showcased, which is an incredibly exciting prospect.

Why Daredevil’s powers get more focus makes sense for the MCU

Marvel Studios has more opportunities to showcase Daredevil’s superhuman powers

Matt Murdock on the street in Daredevil Born Again

Netflix’s Marvel shows have always been very grounded, gritty, and based in the real world, but Marvel Studios’ access to more otherworldly, otherworldly, and fantastical elements means Daredevil’s wildest powers can be showcased in a meaningful way. We have already seen that this is the case with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, who showed impressive strength in Hawkeye which he never did on Netflix. I would love Daredevil: Born Again leaning into the weirder side of Daredevil’s abilities, allowing Charlie Cox to demonstrate sides of Matt Murdock we’ve never seen before.

Following Charlie Cox’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and supporting role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Daredevil: Born Again gives Matt Murdock his first gig set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daredevil: Born Again, consisting of 18 episodes, serves as the spiritual successor to Netflix’s three-season Daredevil series and adapts its characters to the MCU’s main continuity while establishing a new beginning for the superhero lawyer.
