New dialogue change in BG3 is great for Astarion fans

Latest patch update for Baldur’s Gate 3 makes a lot of small changes to dialogue and cinematic moments, but one tiny detail is especially exciting for Astarion fans. Fan-favorite vampire companion Astarion has some of the best quotes, one-liners, and moments in the game, especially towards the other party members. This time around, something recently added late in the game has to do with what his comrades say about him instead.

While a popular character among fans, Astarion is also considered an interesting personality among the other companion characters. The most unique thing about him is that he is the spawn of a vampire.his main motivation is to take revenge on his master Cazador. He can be exposed to sunlight for most of the game due to being infected by the Mind Flayer parasite. This is a detail that the game recognizes and uses later in the story, which was improved in a recent patch.

The reaction of satellites to Astarion burning in the sun has changed

After defeating the Void Brain at the end of Act 3, Astarion will run away, burning in the light of the sunrise. This is a sad moment, and in previous versions of the game, the reaction of fellow companions was very dismissive and indifferent to the vampire spawn. In Patch 7, the dialogue was changed to allow party members to recognize Astarion better. and respect his position. New reactions imply growth of the characters as a traveling group, having emotional connections with each other due to the long journey they have been on.

Old dialogue – patch #6

New dialogue – patch #7

Gail

“I guess this is the last time anyone will see him. The last time he will see the sun.”

“Astarion! Having been cured of one ailment, he was cured of another. The sun is no longer his friend, but we must be. He will need more comfort than the shadows can give.”

Will

“I bet Astarion will keep himself in the dark from now on. At least he’ll find something to eat.”

“Astarion! Gods, what a horror. Feeling the sun on your skin for so long and then being in the shade again.”

Heart of Shadow

“This appears to be the end of Astarion’s love affair with the sun. It will be difficult for him.”

“Poor Astarion, how he loved the sun! If only the feeling were mutual. I hope this isn’t the last time we see him.”

Lae’zel

“This is the last Astarion the sun will ever see. May he feel good in the dark.”

“Call him man or monster, Astarion was a force against the greater plan. He deserves to bask in the sun, not hide in the dark.”

Karlach

“Back in the shadows, but maybe not forever. Even the worst misfortune can be corrected by some sacrifice.”

“Astarion, burned by the sun again. Damn, this is fucking brutal.”

Halsin

“I feel like the only thing he will miss is that freedom. It may be a long time before we see him again.”

“Cruel blow. Astarion loved to feel the caress of the sun! Only now it pierces him with its claws. Perhaps we will meet again under the shield of darkness.”

Jaheira

“I doubt we’ll ever see that face basking in the sun again.”

“Bless you, Astarion. Hide while you must. But don’t think that your city is already done with you.”

Mintara

“I almost envy him. While he retreats into the shadows, I prepare for a long exile to the surface.”

“Astarion is cursed to run from the sun, just as I am cursed to walk on it. Don’t humiliate him with pity, he survived. And will thrive thanks to the bounty that darkness provides. There’s still life in it.”

The new reactions of all companions are much stronger than the original replicas. They seem more sincere and show that the characters have come to care about Astarion. during their adventures together. Since the traveling party tends to experience similar role-playing and Dungeons and Dragons games, affections and respect within the group develop as the story progresses. Subtle ways of manifesting this aspect in Baldur’s Gate 3 create a beautiful and sincere story in which not only players become attached to the characters, but also to the main NPCs.

The only dialogue that has not changed comes from Minsk.where he exclaims: “We will find you, Astarion, and Boo will bring you a sunflower!“This reaction fits his personality so well that Larian leaving it unchanged was the perfect choice. She also aligns with the other new reactions by being more sincere towards this vampire spawn. All companions express their sympathy and desire to see him. again, which they will do during the new dinner scene in the epilogue, which was introduced back in the fifth update.

Astarion is one of the easiest characters to fire in BG3

The warm heart of the vampire spawn is eclipsed by the cold surface

Whether it’s a dislike of morally gray characters or aversion to vampires, Astarion is sometimes written off as an unlikable character.. Some players don’t want to get involved with him, but he’s still a favorite among groups of fans who enjoy his story or like the ups and downs of his romantic journey. He also shares the desire for freedom that many other party members possess, with the potential for a prosperous character like everyone else. Astarion’s newfound presence in the game thanks to the dialogue changes makes him a great character.

Subtle changes like the dialogue updates in Patch 7 can be an effective way to deepen the connections between characters and the charm of the story. Astarion’s fans have another moment that confirms his established reputation among his peers in the world. Baldur’s Gate 3, showing his more sincere side. He has also established himself as a beloved companion among gamer fans and his gaming friends, who wish him well.
