Notice! Spoilers ahead for episode 4 of NCIS: Origins.12 years before they shared the screen, the NCIS the franchise finds a way to highlight how much Leroy Jethro Gibbs would trust Abby Sciuto. Ahead of the flagship pilot in 2023, Gibbs’ MCRT team debuted for the first time in NOTCH a year before. At that time, some members of the inaugural cast of the police process were already part of the squad, such as Michael Weatherly’s Anthony DiNozzo Jr., David McCallum’s Ducky Mallard, and Pauley Perrette’s Abby Sciuto. They eventually became vital members of Mark Harmon’s original group in NCIS pilot, but his relationship with the forensic scientist was special.
Gibbs had different dynamics with all of his team members in NCIS. Since he handpicked them, their camaraderie, both personally and professionally, helped them become very effective in their work. That being said, Gibbs’ relationship with Abby was different. The no-nonsense MCRT leader tended to have a soft spot for his forensic scientist and her love of anything gothic and the caffeinated drink, Caf-Pow. He was always kind and protective when it came to Abby, and she rewarded him by being fantastic at her job. NCIS: Origins episode 4, “All’s Not Lost” proves that Gibbs needed her too.
Gibbs has plenty of evidence from Woody’s tests on NCIS: Origins
Camp Pendleton’s forensic scientist is overwhelmed with Gibbs’ duties
Gibbs’ NCIS: Origins Episode 4’s case hits close to home for the grieving father, as Mike Franks’ team deals with a missing girl who witnesses a brutal murder. Dealing with the heartbreaking murders of his first wife and daughter, Shannon and Kelly, he does everything in his power to ensure the mystery is solved – including being very thorough in his investigation. A big part of this is sending various samples and items to be tested by the forensic scientist, Woody.
In fact, being very thorough when examining the evidence was a big part of why Gibbs’ MCRT was so good at NCIS.
Considering how much stuff Gibbs leaves behind even before Franks and Randy arrive at the lab, Woody is understandably overwhelmed. While this can be attributed to the fact that he is extremely motivated to keep the girl safe, it is also a trait that remains with him as he rises through the organization’s ranks and leads his own team. In fact, being very thorough when examining the evidence was a big part of why Gibbs’ MCRT was so good at NCIS.
Gibbs’ reliance on forensic analysis to obtain evidence highlights the importance of Abby’s MCRT
MCRT struggled when Abby wasn’t around
Throughout your passage NCISGibbs played a father figure to most of his subordinates. However, Abby’s childlike sensitivity likely reminded him of Kelly, who died when she was just 8 years old. That being said, NCIS: Origins Episode 4 highlights how much Gibbs trusted the forensic scientist’s work to do his job effectively. Have an evidence-based chief investigator, Abby was tasked with testing everything for any type of residue and other clues to find suspects.. Sometimes, she would even think outside the box and recreate the entire crime just to fill in some narrative gaps in MCRT.
There were times when NCIS when Abby wasn’t around to do her usual work and the team struggled to move forward with their cases. Despite having access to the laboratory and having some other very intelligent members, no one else could do the work more efficiently than her. Abby’s replacement, Karen is still good at her job, but without a doubt, NCIS it doesn’t put as much emphasis on the work of the forensic lab now compared to how it did before, when Perrette’s character ran it.
