Warning: SPOILERS ahead for NCIS Season 22, Episode 9!NCIS Season 22's latest story update teases McGee's (Sean Murray) suspicions about a new character, Vice Principal LaRoche (Seamus Dever), in upcoming episodes. NCIS Season 22, Episode 9 heavily introduced the new member of the team, who is acting quite suspiciously and appears to be hiding something from her new co-workers. This included actions that interfered with the team's investigation, questioning them at every turn and wanting to be involved in all facets, including witness interviews. Taking credit for an investigation he tried to stop led to negative reactions, especially from McGee.
Talking to TV insiderexecutive producer Steven D. Binder joked how McGee will thoroughly investigate LaRoche when NCIS returns. He explained that for now, all the team's Senior Field Agent needs is suspicion, but that he will begin to peel back the layers of his new superior when the show returns. The executive producer also suggested an episode inspired by the film Guess who's coming to dinner introducing the duo, promising a fun and engaging discovery. Check out what Binder had to say below:
It will be in direct conflict with – you've probably already noticed [the fact that] McGee has a problem with the guy. It will be McGee who takes the lead in investigating this guy, questioning him or asking about him. Is this related to this guy taking the position that McGee wanted? Maybe, but McGee's a good agent, so if you smell smoke, there could be a fire.
Yes, this isn't some secret underground concern that McGee has. It will be open. We will have an episode [that]it's something like Guess who's coming to dinner with McGee and LaRoche and some family members. So this will be a fun episode to bring them together. It's one thing to hunt down a guy or suspect a guy or track down a guy who's in the office next door or who works somewhere in DC, but when they're in your bathroom, it's a little more fun.
[So far] there is only suspicion. You can keep an eye on someone without necessarily… Season 22, anything game.
What Binder's statement says about McGee's investigation in NCIS Season 22
LaRoche can't hide his true intentions for long
While it's unclear what LaRoche's reasons are for meddling in the investigation, his inclusion as a force against the rest of the cast of NCIS indicates that your intentions are not good. While there is no clear evidence that he is a mole or infiltrator with some nefarious purpose, It's disheartening to McGee that he's so willing to derail their investigations despite his position of power. Given his suspicions, it appears that his own investigation into the Deputy Director will be a central part of the upcoming episodes.
Even though LaRoche was introduced at the beginning of season 22, the last episode proved that he is a fundamental detriment to the team, especially if he continues to meddle in future missions. Since McGee has already decided to start investigating himIt seems that whatever he discovers will not turn into a potential NCIS season 23. Instead, the team's seasoned veteran will have to keep vigilance and find out what he can sooner rather than later. The episode inspired by Binder's film could even be central to what will be discovered.
NCIS season 22 returns on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 9 pm ET on CBS.
Our Take on McGee Investigating LaRoche in NCIS Season 22
Something important is bound to be revealed
Given the obstacle LaRoche presented in the last episode, it's clear that McGee's suspicions will likely be confirmed through his investigation. While there's no word yet on what this means for the vice principal, whatever secrets he's been hiding will likely be revealed in upcoming episodes of NCIS on return. But, with more than a month to go until this return, there is no way to say what the new character's real reasons for his behavior really are.
