Of all the heroes and villains of Jujutsu Kaisen, few have had as significant an impact as Nanami Kento. Although he is a supporting character, in many ways he has earned more respect and admiration than the main character, Yuji Itadori. When Nanami passed away during the Shibuya Incident arc, the world mourned the jujutsu sorcerer.
A memorial was created in Malaysia so fans could pay their respects to Nanami a sign of the tremendous influence the character has. Few anime heroes are idolized enough to spark this level of emotion in viewers, but Nanami is still one of the Jujutsu Kaisen fan favorites even after his death. Nanami is a complex and realistic hero, striking a perfect blend of supernatural and relatable that resonates with fans to this day.
His interactions with Gojo Satoru
The fun friendship between these two wizards is more loving and supportive than it might seem
When it comes to their personalities, Gojo and Nanami are polar opposites. Gojo is outspoken, loud, and comical, while Nanami prefers to be reserved, complete her work in a timely manner, and take it seriously. Because the pair approach their work as jujutsu sorcerers very differently, they often get into humorous disagreements.
Gojo takes pleasure in teasing and toying with Nanami, which often causes Nanami to feel exasperated and irritated by her fellow sorcerer’s childishness. The relationship between Gojo and Nanami is complex because although Gojo irritates him sometimes, Nanami genuinely cares about Gojo. They studied together at Jujutsu High and always supported each other, despite not agreeing on everything.
Quitting your corporate job to be a wizard
Nanami was once a businessman, but left that position to spend his days fighting curses and saving lives
Nanami wasn’t always a powerful sorcerer, and for a time, he worked as a businessman in the corporate world. Nanami found no fulfillment in his career, feeling drained, discouraged, and as if the work he was doing was useless. He realized that to make a substantial difference in the world, he would have to fight curses and save others.
Nanami left her corporate job and never looked back. Although working as a jujutsu sorcerer is also tiring work, knowing that he is keeping others safe from danger and death is emotionally satisfying enough to give Nanami the strength to persevere. Nanami’s willingness to give up monotonous work in pursuit of a more difficult and painful career proves how dedicated he is to helping others.
Your dream of visiting Malaysia
When Nanami died, he imagined a Malaysian beach, which was where he planned to retire.
Even after becoming a jujutsu sorcerer, Nanami was still exhausted and worn out from constant work. To stay motivated, he often dreamed of where he would live and how he would occupy himself during retirement. Nanami’s biggest dream was to retire on a beach in Malaysialiving out his remaining days in peace.
When Nanami was dying horribly at Mahito’s hands, his brain took over, plunging him into a fantasy. The place he fantasized about in his last moments on earth was a beautiful beach in Malaysia. Although he tragically never made it to Malaysia during his lifetime, This moment reveals how happy the thought of this beautiful paradise made himand he was able to spend his final minutes there mentally.
Using your overtime power
Nanami despises overtime, but it ironically offers him much greater power levels than normal
If there’s one thing Nanami hates more than anything, it’s working overtime. Nanami prefers to work at the designated time and then go home to rest, so being forced to work overtime makes him furious. This rage translates into powerful energy, putting his cursed energy levels at 110%-120% instead of the usual 80%-90%.
Nanami can perform even more deadly attacks when using this Overtime skill. When he first fought against Mahito, his reprieve helped him survive against the evil Cursed Spirit. So although Nanami doesn’t like overtime, ironically, this allows him to fight more effectively.
Fighting Mahito
Nanami’s fight with Mahito proved how powerful a Jujutsu sorcerer he is
Nanami’s fight with Mahito in the sewers was tense and action-packed displaying Nanami and Mahito’s best attacks. This was one of Mahito’s first battles in Jujutsu Kaisen and adequately conveyed how great a threat the cursed spirit posed to humanity. Mahito underestimated Nanami, however, seeing him as a weaker sorcerer than Gojo, and this underestimation was his downfall in this fight.
Nanami used her overtime and ratio techniques against Mahitocompletely catching the curse off guard. Although Nanami didn’t end Mahito’s life here, unfortunately, he showed the curse that he should never underestimate Nanami’s incredible abilities again. Mahito narrowly escaped, but this wouldn’t be the last time the pair faced each other.
His advice to the younger generation and dedication to keeping them safe
Nanami wants her youngest students to fight evil, but makes sure they never face dangers they are not prepared for.
Nanami cares deeply about young people and never wants to see any of the younger wizards harmed by curses. In the Shibuya Incident arc, he tells the first-year students to stay back, explaining that the battles to come are too dangerous for someone of his skill level. He always encourages students to work hard, but also keeps them safe at all costs.
Nanami specializes in helping Jujutsu High sorcerers in training grow and hone their skills without exposing them to unnecessary risk. Another famous quote that supports this fact is his noble proclamation, “I am an adult and you are a child. I have a duty to prioritize your life over mine.” In every situation, Nanami cares for the most vulnerable, whether they are innocent bystanders or the students he mentors.
Fighting as a team with Yuji Itadori
Nanami was willing to die in this battle and “didn’t regret” choosing to fight evil
Not only did Nanami fight Mahito alone, he also faced the cursed spirit alongside Jujutsu High student Yuji Itadori. During this fight, Mahito unleashed his terrifying Domain Expansion: Self-Embodiment of Perfection. All hope seemed lost, but this particular fight fortunately it didn’t end with the death of Nanami or Yuji, although both certainly had a close call.
Nanami saved Yuji on many occasions, but this time Yuji protected Nanami by releasing Sukuna. This battle was also noteworthy because Nanami was fully prepared to die for the cause of fighting evil. and protecting humanity by boldly stating that he had “no regrets.” Nanami’s dedication to his goals, even on the brink of death, proves how honorable a hero he is.
Fighting Dagon
Some of Nanami’s most impressive uses of her technique occurred during this battle.
Dagon is one of the most evil and stubborn of the Disaster Curses, and Nanami unfortunately had to face him in a fight. An entire group of sorcerers, including Nanami, Maki, Naobito, and Megumi, fought against Dagon together. Nanami is a jujutsu sorcerer who often fights alone, so it was It’s gratifying to see him collaborate with other talented sorcerers during this fight.
Nanami made sure to protect the younger sorcerers, Megumi and Maki, while still delivering powerful blows to the cursed spirit. After a hard-fought battle, Dagon was defeated for good, but Toji was his killer, not anyone else involved in the initial fight. Although Nanami did not directly end Dagon’s life, his Cursed Technique and intelligent thinking significantly weakened the beingmaking it easier for Toji to achieve victory over the curse.
His fight with Haruta Shigemo
Nanami gave Haruta one of the most devastating beatings ever. Jujutsu Kaisen as revenge for hurting others
Perhaps Nanami’s most famous fight in all Jujutsu Kaisen was his confrontation with Haruta Shigemo. Haruta and Nobara were initially fighting, and Nanami was furious to see the curse user attacking a younger student. Nanami took control of the fight, punching Haruta and pulling him by the hair. Nanami’s anger is exposed in this fight, revealing how disgusted he truly is by evil acts.
Haruta injured innocent assistant managers and other people not directly involved in the combat, which made Nanami furious. Nanami gave Haruta a beating when revenge for the injuries he caused to innocent humans. This fight is important because it not only portrays Nanami’s physical strength, but also her absolute hatred for evil.
Passing the torch to Yuji Itadori
Even when Nanami was dying, he made sure to comfort and encourage Yuji, proving him to be a selfless hero.
Nanami’s most moving and honorable scene was also the saddest. When Nanami fought Mahito, the cursed spirit, for the last time during the Shibuya Incident arc, this was her last battle. In order to prevent Yuji, Nobara, or another younger sorcerer from dyingNanami gave up on her own life.
His body was badly burned before his death and before being torn apart by Mahito. he gave Yuji valuable encouragement, stating “You can take it from here”, hoping Yuji would keep his legacy of defeating evil alive. Even while Nanami was being killed in a horrific and painful way, he still made sure to cheer and comfort others with his dying breath. Nanami is definitely one of Jujutsu Kaisen best and most selfless heroes, proven by their final words.
