My Hero Academia creator breaks silence on anime's final season, teasing Deku's last stand

On August 5, 2024, Kohei Horikoshi's masterpiece, My Hero Academia, officially ended, with the final chapter of the shonen manga's epilogue, titled “More”. Horikoshi delivered a message to fans at Jump Festa 2025talking about his thoughts on the finale and future plans for the series' final season.

In his statement, Horikoshi thanked the fans of My Hero Academy for all of their support and love over the years, stating that they hope viewers will continue to follow and engage with the series as the anime continues, even though the manga has concluded. Finally, he talked about some new and exciting content on the way, including season 8 of the anime.

Horikoshi's playful illustration, published in @aitaikimochi account X, includes some of the My Hero Academy Fans' all-time favorite heroes: All Might, Deku, Bakugo and Todoroki. In the image, the characters appear as an Idol Group, with the Class 1-A students dressed in black shirts, blue jackets, and blue pants, while All Might stands behind them as the focal point in a black and gold robotic suit. . The fun design, created specifically for Jump Festa 2025, pays homage to the series' most popular heroes while placing them in a light-hearted new alternate universe setting with stylish new outfits that differ from their typical hero outfits.

Horikoshi created the image to express his gratitude to everyone who helped My Hero Academy reach the current level of fame, that is, the dedicated fans who have followed the manga since its release. In the accompanying message, he was extremely grateful to his readers, saying: "Thank you for rooting for me and reading the series all these years." Horikoshi also commented specifically on the ending, saying he felt "a sense of emptiness" now that My Hero Academy concluded for good, and he has to say goodbye to these beloved characters who have become so familiar over the last decade.

Although the main series has concluded, Horikoshi urged fans not to despair, because the epilogue is not the last they will see of the iconic Pro Heroes and Class 1-A students. To begin with, the anime will continue, with season 8 on the way sometime in fall 2025which will be his last season. Furthermore, there will be one next My Hero Academia: Vigilantes animewhich is also scheduled to premiere in April 2025, and will be a spin-off of the well-known series, with new characters and situations to expand the pre-established My Hero Academy universe.

Horikoshi will also create many more illustrationsand announced that he has already designed a new one for next year's Genga Illustration Exhibition, as well as suggesting additional future illustrations that are yet to come. Finally, he revealed that he is working on “manga short panels,” potentially containing entirely new content, as he mentioned that he has already started a completely new manga series. Although My Hero Academy may be over, Kohei Horikoshi is far from done creating in the anime and manga space, and it will be very exciting to see what the talented creator dreams up next.
