Mufasa: The Lion KingThe live-action poster has been reimagined in the classic style of the original Lion King2D art in a stunning recreation. The next Mufasa The film will serve as a prequel and sequel to Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion Kingwith Rafiki (John Kani) telling Simba’s (Donald Glover) daughter Kiara (Blue Ivy Carter) about the titular lion’s (Aaron Pierre) origin story. Although the film will bring elements from the animated franchise to its story, the adventure on display will be entirely original to the live-action universe.
Now, zpartybus.x released a fan-made poster that reimagines Mufasa: The Lion King in the style of the original 2D animated film. The art shows Mufasa front and center, alongside Scar on the right and Rafiki on the leftnow with brown hair to denote his youth. The poster also features Zazu in the background, while Timon, Pumbaa and Kiara are seen in the bottom corners. The post also includes the original poster for comparison, although the font has a snowy background instead of Pride Rock. Check out the poster below:
What Mufasa’s 2D Poster Says About the Prequel Movie
Would it have worked in the original animation style?
The fanmade proof prequel poster would have worked in 2D animation style if it had been created within this universe. The cast of Mufasa: The Lion King It could also have remained the same, given its focus on the past, necessitating different voices regardless of presentation. Since there is very little information about his past presented in the original films, the film could also utilize a similar adventure, remixing it to fit the first film’s timeline.
However, it is not clear whether The Lion King The timeline in the 2D animated version would allow Kiara to hear about Rafiki’s story, as his youth is extensively explored in The Lion King 2. These elements may have been cut from a different version of the filmmaking it more focused on the past instead of the future. Although it could also be crafted to fit into the second film’s plot seamlessly, having the retelling of its story take place after the birth of Simba’s daughter but before the main events of the film.

It’s a stark reminder of the franchise’s origins
Although Mufasa: The Lion King won’t adopt the 2D form from which the franchise originated, zpartybus.x’s poster is a strong reminder of the live-action universe’s source material. It also highlights how well a hand-drawn version of the film could work, if Disney decided to add it to the original canon. With the film hitting theaters later in the year, it will be interesting to see how its live-action approach will differ from what it could have been.
