NetherRealm Studios recently released the Ghostface gameplay trailer on Mortal Kombat 1of Khaos reigns DLC. The inclusion of the iconic masked killer from Scream the franchise took many by surprise, as he initially seemed like a rather boring character compared to the rest of the cast. Fortunately, the trailer revealed that Ghostface’s gameplay is a clear highlight this helps secure its place as an exciting introduction to the new characters added to the DLC.

That’s it It’s not the first time that Mortal Kombat franchise added horror movie characters to the lineups for their games. Freddy Krueger from ONE Nightmare on Elm Street was added in MK9while Jason and Leatherface were in Mortal KombatX. While Ghostface may seem a little underwhelming compared to these other horror icons, his inclusion in MK1 It’s still a pleasant surprise that’s sure to be a fun time for players.

Ghostface has many ways to deal with opponents

As Ghostface never possessed any explicit magical powers or other special abilities, NetherRealm was very limited in what they could do with his moveset. However, despite only being equipped with a knife, it’s clear that Ghostface has many ways to deal with multiple opponents in combat. He has a crawling motion to escape projectiles, Multiple rushdown attacks to corner opponentsand can even throw its knives if it can’t get closer.

The smartest aspect of Ghostface’s move set might be how NetherRealm managed to incorporate the fact that there are multiple Ghostface killers in the films. While many other characters MK1 can teleport behind his opponent to dodge or attack, Ghostface has other masked killers rush off the screen to launch a surprise attack behind. It is one of the many great references to Scream franchise, and shows that NeatherRealm pays attention to the media that attracts Mortal Kombat guest characters from.

Arguably the best part of Ghostface’s gameplay trailer is the reveal of his fatality, which begins with Ghostface repeatedly stabbing his opponent, only for the camera to zoom out and reveal Johnny Cage playing MK1 in your home alone in the dark. He expresses his frustration at losing before Ghostface sneaks up on him and kills him, spraying blood all over the television screen. It’s a hilarious final move that translates the films’ meta comedy well, and bringing Johnny in for the unexpected fourth wall break is perfect for Mortal Kombat.

Ultimately, Ghostface’s moveset and fatality make him a very exciting addition to the cast. With so many clever references to the various Scream films, there’s plenty for longtime fans to enjoy and enough to intrigue newcomers. Thanks to the care NetherRealm put into developing Ghostface, he should be a lot of fun to play. Mortal Kombat 1.
