Put The Cast KingJane explains Freeman’s first reaction to Dreamcatcher. According to actor Henry, director Kasdan wanted to do a staged reading of the film, where all the actors could sit and read the script before filming. Jane remembers that the cast “read everything from beginning to end“, noting that”takes longer to read for some reason.” This reading ended up taking three hours. Freeman reportedly had a scathing response to the script after this reading, saying “What the fuck was that?“. Check out Jane’s full response below:
Larry [Kasdan] I wanted to do a stage reading where all the actors got together and we all sat in a little room in the hotel and read the script. And there’s Morgan Freeman, and [Tom] Sizemore, and [Timothy] Olyphant, and [Damian] Lewis, and we’re reading this, you know, actors in a room with a director read the story. And we read everything from beginning to end, it takes longer to read for some reason, it took us about 3 hours. And in the end, finally, we finished the damn thing. Morgan Freeman closes his script and says “What the fuck was that?” This is a true story.
What this means for Dreamcatcher
Freeman’s Statement Reflects Dreamcatcher Criticism
Unfortunately for the film, Freeman’s statement is a reflection on how Dreamcatcher was received as a whole. The film contains a definitely rotten 28% Tomatometer among 181 critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score isn’t much higher, at 35% approval. Critics attacked Dreamcatcher for its laziness and dependence on clichés to tell stories. How the Toronto StationRsaid Geoff Pevere, Dreamcatcher was “Easily one of the most absurdly contrived and incoherently condensed horror films in recent memory.“
Given the complicated nature of the film, it’s no surprise that Freeman reacted this way upon first reading. Dreamcatcher. At that time, Freeman was an acting icon who had already been nominated for three Oscars for his previous work. Dreamcatcherthe wildness of would be a challenge for him in terms of acting. In fact, several critics noted how great the cast was, even though that cast achieved minimal results.
Our Take on Freeman’s Dreamcatcher Reaction
Dreamcatcher is an adaptation of the Weak King
Although it is considerably more straightforward than most would imagine, Freeman’s reaction Dreamcatcher is justified. As a literary work, King’s book itself is not one of his strongest. The novel was the first King wrote after being hit by a van in 1999 while still recovering from his injuries. Its overly complicated plot made adaptation difficult, resulting in a muddy interpretation of the events that made it to the big screen. Dreamcatcher will continue to fall among the Dark Tower brand of King adaptations that completely miss the mark.
