Mixed reviews for Moana 2 indicate that the sequel won’t be as universally loved as the first film. Many Moana 2 reviews find much praise, including the titular hero’s characterization, his dynamic with Maui, and the visually stunning animation. One of the most common criticisms so far is regarding the song, which was not written by Lin-Manuel Miranda this time, and it’s a significant factor in the sequel’s inability to reach the same heights as the previous story. The retread of familiar narrative and thematic elements from the first film is also another repeated criticism.
