Shortly after the debut of the first teaser, the latest news arrives in the form of a complete trailer to Miss Scarlet season 5. The newly renamed series is returning with a bang for its fifth season, and the relationship between the eponymous private detective and rookie detective Blake is cold from the start. As Eliza's professional life spirals out of control, she begins to evaluate her own personal life as well. Meanwhile, a new case puts everyone's lives at risk and Eliza is caught in the middle of a deeper conspiracy.

With so many big changes coming for the next season of Miss ScarletAnticipation has never been higher for the cozy mystery romance. Fortunately, PBS has already put the show on the schedule, and Miss Scarlet season 5 will make its TV debut on Sunday, January 12, 2025at 8pm EST. However, it will be available for early viewing through the PBS Passport member benefit and PBS Masterpiece subscribers beginning December 8, 2024.

Lots of comebacks and a great match
Although programs like Miss Scarlet utilize a rotating cast of guest characters, The series' main cast has remained fairly consistent since the first episode. However, Miss Scarlet season 5 will see a big change in its ensemble, as Stuart Martin has announced that he will not return as his beloved character, William “The Duke” Wellington. Despite this shocking departure, Kate Phillips is confirmed to return to the lead role, and she will once again play the intrepid detective Miss Scarlet. To replace Martin's "The Duke", Tom Durant Pritchard has been cast as Scotland Yard detective Alexander Blake.

Miss Scarlet Season 5 Story
Miss Scarlet gets a new partner
It is unclear exactly what will happen in Miss Scarlet Season 5, and the final moments of Season 4 didn't offer many clues. Season 4 saw the pair split when Eliza accepted a job offer at Nash & Sonsbut William eventually professes his love for Eliza. William was absent from the final two episodes, and their love story was put on the back burner while she solved a case involving Nash.
PBS revealed a synopsis for season 5 that says:
In the new season, Eliza's agency is thriving and her professional life is on a successful path. On the personal side, however, Duke has been in New York for several months and Eliza is forced to make a difficult decision. Meanwhile, a new Detective Inspector arrives at Scotland Yard and Eliza must build a relationship with him if she wants to continue to have access to police resources. All of these changes and decisions beg the question: Can Eliza Scarlet have it all?
Unfortunately, Stuart Martin's departure from the series will apparently rob fans of any chance of closure to William and Eliza's love story, which leaves season 5 somewhat open-ended. However, the introduction of Tom Durant Pritchard's Alexander Blake is sure to shake things upand the hardened detective will likely butt heads with the headstrong Eliza. No more Miss Scarlet and the Duke, Miss Scarlet season 5 has a blank slate to work with.

Just weeks after the season was scheduled, PBS premiered a quick provocation to Miss Scarlet Season 5 in November 2024. While it doesn't show much, the teaser highlights the contentious relationship between Scarlet and rookie Detective Blake. The Scotland Yard professional is not willing to work with private investigators and it is clear that Scarlet will need to prove herself to continue working on cases.
Shortly before the show returned, a complete trailer to Miss Scarlet season 5 was revealed in December 2024. Highlighting the icy relationship between Eliza and rookie Detective Blake, the trailer also hints at a massive case that puts everyone in danger. Meanwhile, Eliza begins to think about her own life outside of work, and it becomes clear that leaving “The Duke” has left her emotionally shaken.
