The drama of the Victorian period Miss Scarlet It has already awakened some mysteries in its first four seasons and has now been renewed for a 5th season. Premiering in 2020, the show follows Eliza Scarlet as she inherits her late father’s detective agency and teams up with seasoned Scotland Yard veteran William “The Duke” Wellington to solve cases. Putting a clever spin on old detective tropes, Miss Scarlet looks at the Victorian era through a modern lens and explores issues such as gender and sexuality while revealing compelling mysteries.
While the series has all the visual appeal of the more opulent period dramas, the greatest strength of Miss Scarlet it was always its characters and its cozy atmosphere. The cozy British murder mystery series is nothing new, but Miss Scarlet adds a lot of visual interest while also going a little deeper than the usual whodunit when it comes to exploring contemporary social issues. The easy nature of the show made it possible to renew it for more seasons, with Season 5 promising to continue that trend.

Miss Scarlet Season 5 Story
Miss Scarlet gets a new partner
It is unclear exactly what will happen in Miss Scarlet Season 5, and the final moments of Season 4 didn’t offer many clues. Season 4 saw the pair split when Eliza accepted a job offer at Nash & Sonsbut William eventually professes his love for Eliza. William was absent from the final two episodes, and their love story was put on the back burner while she solved a case involving Nash.
PBS revealed a synopsis for season 5 that says:
In the new season, Eliza’s agency is thriving and her professional life is on a successful path. On the personal side, however, Duke has been in New York for several months and Eliza is forced to make a difficult decision. Meanwhile, a new Detective Inspector arrives at Scotland Yard and Eliza must build a relationship with him if she wants to continue to have access to police resources. All of these changes and decisions beg the question: can Eliza Scarlet have it all?
Unfortunately, Stuart Martin’s departure from the series will apparently rob fans of any chance of closure to William and Eliza’s love story, which leaves season 5 somewhat open-ended. However, the introduction of Tom Durant Pritchard’s Alexander Blake is sure to shake things upand the hardened detective will likely butt heads with the headstrong Eliza. No more Miss Scarlet and the Duke, Miss Scarlet season 5 has a blank slate to work with.
