Mega Altaria Mega Raid Guide (Weaknesses and Best Counters)

Mega Altaria might be without a doubt one of the most adorable Mega Evolutions in Pokemon GObut can be a demanding boss you will need to target your weaknesses with a strong team of counters to win. Along with a decent CP (Combat Power), this cute dragon also comes with a strong balance of Attack and Defense. This means this enhanced form of the Swablu evolution can deal as much damage as it can handle, adding a bit of danger to its tank-like combat capabilities.

Among all the very powerful bosses from the latest Raid boss lineup for Pokemon GOIt can be quite common to let your guard down around an opponent who is mostly clouds. However, Mega Altaria has a dangerously focused moveset in its arsenal that can quickly lead to its defeat if you enter the fray unprepared. Either way, you and your raid group will have more than a chance if each of you assembles the right team to attack some, if not all, of its few vulnerabilities.

Mega Altaria Weaknesses and Resistances

Ice, steel and more

As a dual type of Dragon and Fairy in Pokemon GOMega Altaria has four weaknesses: Poison, Ice, Steel, and Fairy-type attacks. It’s like the main games, but for GOany attack of these four types will deal 160% damage. These might be some of the less common types that casual players might have less of, but there are enough that you should be able to get at least a full team together for decent coverage. Any counterattack using moves of the same type will also net you a 20% STAB (same type attack bonus).

However, with the aforementioned double typing, there are also some resistances. Mega Altaria is resistant to Dragon, Bug, Fighting, Fire, Bug, Grass, Water, Dark, and Electric-type attacks. These Pokémon types only inflict 63% damage against this bossso you need to make sure you don’t use any of these attacks. Otherwise, you won’t be able to inflict enough damage to defeat it before the timer runs out and you’ll be left with unnecessarily defeated or injured Pokémon. You will have to spend Potions and Revives on healing.

Best counters for Mega Altaria and its moveset

A variety of strong attackers

The best counters to use against Mega Altaria in Pokemon GO are strong Steel, Poison, Ice and Fairy-type Pokémon, such as Metagross, Nihilego, Mamoswine and Gardevoirwhich can use moves of the same type. You can even adjust Gengar’s best moveset to focus only on Poison-type attacks. Metagross also functions as one of the counters to use against Rocket Leader Sierra. You don’t necessarily need to use any of these Pokémon. You can select any of the large number of counters in the table below, including all their types and best move sets.

Mega Altaria’s moveset features a mix of Dragon and Fairy-type attacks that reflect its typing, such as Dragon Breath, Dragon Pulse, Dazzling Brilliance, and Moonburst. It could also have flying attacks, Peck and Sky Attackbut none would be effective against any of these counters you decide to use. Just remember to use counters with Fairy, Steel, Ice, and Poison type attacks against Mega Altaria in Pokemon GOand victory in this difficult Mega Raid will be yours.
