Med Season 10’s First Chicago Crossover Is Great (But Not Enough)

Notice! Spoilers ahead for Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 6.Chicago Middle the season 10 special appearance by a Chicago Police character was great, but the series needs to have more extensive crossovers. Chicago Middle was dismembered from Chicago Police nine years ago. It initially featured Jay Halstead’s brother Will as a passionate medical resident who was willing to break the rules to help patients. During this era, there were often full crossovers with other shows on the A Chicago universe.

It’s been a long time since there’s been a full crossover. However, the current season has featured some cameos, such as Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) appearing again in Chicago Fire. More recently, Chicago PoliceKevin Atwater visited Chicago Middle to help with Sharon’s plot. These little ones A Chicago crossovers are a step in the right direction. However, they don’t compare to the full crossovers the series had before the COVID-19 pandemic.

He visited briefly to update Sharon on her case

Atwater appeared in Chicago Middle season 10, episode 6 as one of the police officers helping to investigate who was stalking Sharon and sending death threats. He spoke briefly with Sharon about the status of the case and showed her a photo of a suspect, which she identified for him. This brief appearance contributed to the end of Sharon’s stalker story, but it was not extensive enough to be satisfactory, as Atwater did not appear in more than a few scenes and the confrontation with the suspect occurred off-screen.

However, this brief appearance restored the A Chicago tradition of having characters from different shows interact with each other when the story demands it. In recent years, the show has stopped doing this, instead using random police officers or firefighters in Chicago Med. Atwater’s appearance is therefore long overdue. Using police officers or firefighters that the audience is unfamiliar with is distracting during key scenes, as it raises the question of why they didn’t use beloved characters from other parts of the franchise. Additionally, these appearances help connect different shows in the franchise.

Why It’s Time for a New Chicago Crossover

The franchise has not taken place since 2019

The last A Chicago The crossover was in 2019, making the series overdue for another. In recent years, there have been no crossovers because of the pandemic, and this has made the three series feel isolated from each other rather than part of the same universe. Creating mini-crossovers like Atwater’s appearance helps solve this problem, but a full crossover would be an interesting and exciting story as it would use the main characters from all three series in a strong storyline.

A full crossover would be especially interesting now because there have been some changes to the Chicago Middle cast, as well as the casts of the other shows in the franchise. Each show has some new members that we haven’t interacted with before, and would be especially helpful to the show’s team. Chicago Middle interact with Chicago Fire’Dom Pascual or Chicago Police Reid, both with leadership roles during the new season.

Will a Chicago crossover happen this season?

It’s more likely than in previous seasons, but nothing has been confirmed

In recent years, showrunners have had several reasons for not including a A Chicago crossing. The COVID-19 pandemic was a strong reason, as it was a public health risk to have a large number of actors on set at the same time. However, in 2024 this does not represent as much risk. Unfortunately with the seasons shortened in spring 2024 because of the writers’ strike there was no opportunity to have crossover stories.

Newman also indicated that mini-crossovers like the one Atwater participated in will occur more frequently, as they are popular and have the advantage of being easier to coordinate.

However, the 2024-2025 television season does not face these adversarial circumstances; thus, crossovers are possible. Chicago Fire showrunner Amanda Newman alluded to the possibility. According to The Hollywood ReporterNewman said he was sure there would be “conversations about it this season.” Unfortunately, talks about this are far from confirmed. However, Newman also indicated that mini-crossovers like the one Atwater participated in will occur more frequently, as they are popular and have the advantage of being easier to coordinate.
