McGee & Parker in handcuffs, a dead body in Vance’s office, and more

The full trailer for NCIS Season 22 has arrived, and it’s full of shocking storylines. In October, the long-running procedural came to a halt with the revelation that Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) would be leaving the team to train the new REACT Agents of NCIS. However, Law will continue to appear on the show, meaning Knight’s final position is one mystery that has yet to be uncovered. NCIS Season 22 will pick up months after the last finale and find the team coming back together for a major case.

In a new trailer of CBS (Disclosed exclusively by TVLine), The first explosive storylines of NCIS Season 22 are revealed. They have McGee (San Murray) and Parker (Gary Cole) in handcuffs, Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) entertaining the idea of taking “One of my own,” and a bloody Vance (Rocky Carroll) dealing with a body in his own office. This is on top of the mole in NCIS. Check it out below:

What the NCIS trailer means for Season 22

NCIS has a lot on its plate

Nate takes a serious look at Parker in NCIS season 22

Clocking in at one minute and 30 seconds, the NCIS Trailer is bursting with enticing teases for the season ahead, Which so far feels more serialized than procedural. Some characters are shown with deep, personal conflicts, like Torres’ shadowy encounter with a mystery figure (which may explain why he is later shown tied up) and a lack of trust between Knight and Parker. Regarding the latter, it could be that Knight’s time away from the team has left her with shifting loyalties that Parker can’t reconcile.

There are also glimpses of McGee and Parker being handcuffed by FBI agents, a move that culminates in Parker punching one of the agents in the NCIS elevator. This could be tied to the overarching season mole narrative; Early on, Parker is seen filling Knight in on the problem, suggesting that this is the case that brings her back to her former team. To uncover the mole, Parker and McGee may need to give themselves up as bait. On the other hand, the FBI may suspect that the two are the guilty parties themselves.

Our take on the NCIS Season 22 trailer

NCIS is more character-driven than ever before

A bloody Vance standing in his office with Parker and a dead body in NCIS season 22

While it’s likely that some of the storylines teased in the trailer will be contained within one episode, per the show’s usual format, NCIS Season 22 so far seems to be more character-driven Like ever. We begin with Vance on what appears to be a date, a notable development considering the hardships he’s faced in his personal life. This alone indicates a closer look at the lives of the agents outside of NCIS, but it seems that their work in the agency will still have a lot of drama.

Knight and Parker appear to be at odds, and Torres finds himself in a sticky situation. Vance, too, is shown dealing with a horrific scenario, as he found a dead body in his office. By anchoring its various cases to its characters, NCIS Season 22 has the potential to introduce a new format to the show, one that allows for more long-running storylines driven by the characters we all know and love. This could add a new urgency to the show Which makes it even more exciting to tune in week after week.

NCIS Season 22 premieres Monday, October 14 on CBS.
