The all-new, roller-skating Ghost Rider Fantasma (aka Isabella Alvarez) just made her first full print appearance in the Ghost Rider: Robbie Reyes Special (2024) #1. The brand new Brazilian Ghost Rider was designed for a series of variant covers starring theoretical teen psychics for The Avengers. Since then, they have gradually entered Marvel canon, soon to form an official team as the New Champions.
‘A Fantastic Roller Derby Adventure’ By creative team Melissa Flores, Jan Bazaldua, Luiz Zavala and Ariana Maher Follows Robbie Reyes fighting hellhounds as Ghost Rider. He reveals that the day started with a normal trip to the roller derby with his little brother Gabe and Gabe’s girlfriend, but a gate opened in the middle of the arena. Still inside among the frantic crowd, Gabe and his girlfriend are about to be attacked by a hellhound, but it’s pulled away by a glowing rope wielded by a brand new Ghost Rider!
Unlike most of Marvel’s other Ghost Riders, Fantasma is based on skating rather than a vehicle, with burning flames forming pigtails around her jet-black helmet. Like other riders, Fantasma can generate hellfire-infused chains, but it’s her others Ability that makes you dangerously unique. Fantasma will appear again in New Champions #1 Coming January 2025.

Fantasma’s emotions can open portals to hell
The New Ghost Rider has a major problem
Isabella Alvarez’s main distinguishing power as a Ghost Rider is the ability to open portals to Hell – something she does to drive away the hellhounds. She’s comfortable enough with Hell that she’s willing to plunge into the fiery realm even when Robbie Reyes isn’t, but the powers that be have their dark side.
After rescuing Robbie’s brother, Isabella Alvarez says to herself that her panic attack caused the gate full of hellhounds to open. She doesn’t seem to have much control over this specific power as she is just discovering how it works. This is a unique way of dragging Phantasma into the heroic life, as her ability to access Hell gives her threats that she feels responsible for challenging. A Ghost Rider who sporadically summons demons to Earth is a new twist on the hero status quo.
If Fantasma can learn to control this power, she could be a huge asset to the New Champions team. She can teleport to anywhere through limbo like other characters such as Magic. From the way she fights the Hellhounds with Robbie Reyes though, she already seems to be a formidable opponent with her other powers. Now, she just has to prevent her portals from costing anyone their life.
The all-new Ghost Rider is not like all the others
Isabella Alvarez is joining the new champions
There are many similarities between Isabella Alvarez and other Ghost Riders, but there are a few differences aside from her portal power that stands out; The first is her name. She does not claim the Ghost Rider title, but instead calls herself Fantasma. Second, when she suggests closing the gate from the inside, Robbie Rice refuses, demanding “It’s hot in hell,” But Fantasma shows no fear, suggesting she has some extra resistance to Hellfire. Finally, Isabella says “I’m sure I’m cursed,” Hint that she doesn’t know where her powers came from, and She didn’t make a deal with the Devil or any of Marvel’s demons.
Fantasma’s origin is still a mystery and there is a lot to learn about her. She is still a rookie in the superhero game as she is just getting used to her powers, but she already has a leg up against the other Ghost Riders without fear of hell, and is already a formidable fighter on roller skates. She will be an asset to the New Champions team as she breaks into her powers alongside the other new heroes. Isabella Alvarez aka the new one Ghost Rider Fantasma will return in New Champions #1 Coming January 8, 2025.
