Yet, having recently been brought back from the dead, Kane Parker has discovered that his clone brother has turned against every heroic ideal he once taught Kane. Now, the Scarlet Spider is on a mission to track down Reilly and save him from himself.

Ben always saw Cain as a brother and, in Cain’s greatest time of need, broke through his brother’s hardened exterior to inspire Cain to become a better person.
Both Ben Reilly and Kane Parker were born from the same twisted cloning process Designed by the Jackal to crush Peter Parker’s sense of self and replace him with a controllable puppet. Kane was the first of the clones to be completed and served as the Jackal’s test dummy. However, the first attempt at the cloning process was crude and eventually led to Caine’s biology breaking down, causing severe deformation and mental degradation. After endless scientific torture, Caine turned into a savage villain who sought to kill Spider-Man.
Riley was the second of the Jackal’s experiments and an all-around success. Without the same genetic defects that Caine had developed, Riley was considered a perfect clone. However, Ben was imbued with all of Peter Parker’s memories up until this point and, upon learning that he was the clone and not Peter, had a serious mental breakdown. Regardless, Ben always saw Kane as a brother and, in Kane’s time of greatest need, broke through his brother’s hardened exterior to inspire Kane to become a better person.

Kaine Parker has always struggled to find his own place and sense of self-worth. He often isolates himself from others because he believes himself to be an unworthy cheap knock off of Peter Parker. But Ben’s constant support always pulled Kane back on the right path. After reviving, Kaine is horrified by the rumors of what his brother has become in his absence. Kane decides the limits of bravery that Ben has given him, and the unconditional love and support, that this time it is his turn to save Ben.
While only the introduction issue, The first chapter in Chasm and the Scarlet Spider’s Journey to Redemption highlights not only how far Ben has fallen but how much Kane has grown.. The “failed” clone of Peter Parker now leads a relatively stable life and finds appreciation in the little things. Even in his search for Ben, Kane conducts his investigation with genuine concern for his brother rather than judgment. Although Chasm may be beyond saving, the darkest version of Spider-Man, Scarlet SpiderKnows the value of a second chance, and will do everything possible to give him one.
