Marvel’s best multiverse project is about to come to an end without delivering the one thing everyone wants

There have been concerns that Marvel Studios’ And if…? is coming to an end before exploring some of the MCU’s best multiversal stories, including one that’s been requested since the animated series began. Jeffrey Wright’s enigmatic Watcher has been confirmed to return for a third season And if…? in July 2022. Eight future episodes will investigate new alternate worlds when And if…? The third season premieres on December 22nd, but the long-awaited third season should interestingly end the series.

And if…? season 3 will introduce new versions of Bucky Barnes’ Winter Soldier, Shang-Chi, Agatha Harkness, and Sam Wilson’s Captain America, among many others, while also catching up with Captain Carter and Kahhori, who teamed up in And if…? epic season 2 finale. While it seems like Marvel Studios will never run out of opportunities when developing ideas for the animated series, however, And if…? is still finishing. It’s a shame that some of the MCU’s most interesting stories aren’t explored, including one that many have wanted ever since. And if…? was first announced in April 2019.

Variations of the title, “What If…The Other Half Had Been Snapped?”, have been a popular source of speculation and fan theories since And if…? it started. This refers to the moment when the Mad Titan, Thanos, snapped his fingers using the completed Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Infinity Warcausing half of the universe’s population to be reduced to dust. Many want to know what would have happened if the other half of the universe had been killed by Thanosand this would have been the perfect plot for And if…?.

And if…? gave twists to some of the MCU’s most memorable and iconic stories, but Thanos’ finger snap was largely ignored. Steve Rogers’ transformation into Captain America, Doctor Strange’s abuse of the Time Stone, Peter Quill’s celestial origins, and the formation of the Avengers were all explored. It’s a shame that Thanos’ finger snap – arguably the most important event in the MCU – wasn’t included, as it could have been fun. And if…? episodeand would have given fans exactly what they wanted.

The Avengers: Endgame Blip May Never Have Been Reversed

Fortunately, Thanos using the Infinity Stones on Avengers: Infinity War left the six original Avengers surviving, which allowed 2019 Avengers: Endgame to end many of his stories in quite emotional ways. If the other half had been broken, this wouldn’t have been possible, although it would likely mean that the likes of Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Natasha Romanoff would still be in the MCU.. That is, of course, if someone from the other group had figured out how to reverse the devastation caused by Thanos, and that may have been unlikely.

Avengers: Endgame saw Scott Lang return from the Quantum Realm with a plan to use time travel to acquire the Infinity Stones of the past to reverse Thanos’ pressure, and Tony Stark’s genius allowed that plan to go forward. It’s unlikely that anyone on the other team could have conceived of time travel, let alone figured out how, so it’s possible that the Blip could have lasted considerably longer than just five years.. This would have had huge repercussions for the MCU, which would have been fantastic to explore in And if…?but season three is ignoring that story once again.
