Conquest of 2099 Madame Web is chosen to lead Araneons to a new future
Conquest 2099 #5 by Steve Orlando, José Luis Soares Pinto, Oren Junior, Andrew Dalhouse and Cory Petit
THE Conquest 2099 The timeline has already introduced several important "spider" figures and allies, including Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Ghost-Spider and Spider-Slayer, but the inclusion of Madame Web changes the trajectory of the entire species. For apparently its entire history, the Araneon people sought to spread violence and death throughout the cosmosenslaving vampires and massacring anyone who stood in their way. Madame Web, from 2099, seeks to change this and has spent an incalculable amount of time trapped by her reformist ideas. With Spidercide dead, she is freed and elevated to the highest position in Araneon.
Given the bloodshed that the Araneons have already been responsible for, this promotion is a huge shift in the universe, as they look to resettle elsewhere with a completely new ethos. It's the greatest power any iteration of Madame Web has receivedand even Spider-Woman named her the rightful leader of her people. There is nothing to suggest this 2099 Madame Web is the same Cassandra Webb who typically goes by that moniker, but if the multi-eyed reformer has even a fraction of her precognitive abilities or clairvoyance, she'll be the perfect choice to lead the Araneons toward a different way of life.
The new Madame Web is a huge departure from the original
And the Sony film
Equipped with ideas that should change the course of the Araneons' future, Madame Web is the latest in a growing line of revamped Spider-Verse characters. Conquest of 2099 Spider-Man is none other than Miguel O'Hara, but many of his spider companions take the whole “arachnid” concept to a new level. Spider-Woman is an Araneon defector named Sivern Dru, and the universe's Ghost Spider serves as Spidercide's enforcer. Madame Web's redesign fits perfectly, and she cuts a terrifyingly majestic figure. She towers over Spider-Woman with red eyes and multiple limbs, totally unlike any version of Cassandra Webb.
By bringing Madame Web into the fold and elevating her to a position of power within the Conquest timeline, Marvel is proving that they're not ready to throw in the towel on her just yet.
Along with the poorly received cinematic debut of Madame Web, It's been a while since Cassandra Webb made a lasting impression on comics. She is part of Spider-Man's extensive web of features and has been a consistent member of the “Spider Family” for decades, while also participating in some interesting stories, but has never been the center of attention. As a mutant with the gift of clairvoyance and precognitive abilities, Cassandra always seemed to have more to offer on paper than in practice. Thanks to Conquest of 2099 Complete redesign of the character, the new Madame Web could change that and reshape an entire timeline.
Marvel isn't giving up on Madame Web — and neither should fans
2099 Renovation has incredible potential
Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, and Ghost Spider all have proven track records of success, so their introduction into the 2099 universe came as no surprise. By bringing Madame Web into the fold and elevating her to a position of power within the Conquest timeline, Marvel is proving that they're not ready to throw in the towel on her just yet. As leader of the Araneons, she abandons the idea of being a secondary presence in someone else's story, along with all the mistakes made with Cassandra Webb, both on screen and in other comic book timelines. The new Madame Web has room to realize its potential.
With her chilling design and rich universe to explore, the possibilities are endless for Madame Web. She has a lofty goal ahead of her and allies and enemies are already lined up. While Spider-Woman fully supports the reformer Araneon, Ghost Spider and other Spider-Slayer supporters are primed and ready to oppose her, laying all the groundwork for many memorable conflicts to come. The trouble is just beginning and fans have only gotten a glimpse. Lady Teia has a new chance to prove himself to Marvel fans, and his 2099 visuals and history already deserve attention.
