Marvel Officially Debuts the Manga Version of Carnage, and He’s Officially the Most Disturbing Symbiote Yet

Every Marvel fan knows this Carnage is ten times worse than Venom, especially when paired with its classic host, Cletus Kasady. He is a bloodthirsty, rage-filled maniac determined to destroy all life. That’s only in American comics, though – in manga style, Carnage’s personality can only be elevated to something so terrifying that it will unsettle Marvel fans for years to come.

Of all the symbiotes in Marvel history, Carnage is still the deadliest, if not the most villainous as well. Now, in a new preview, he’s getting a manga-like makeover for Child poison #3 by Taigami, Hatano, Mattia Iacono, Joe Sabino and Aki Yanagi. On the cover of this new issue, a very different Carnage is coming to Marvel, looking just as chilling as the original.

Never before has the host of Carnage been so lacking in red, as instead, he wears a white outfit with a white hairstyleas well as looking as calm as possible – while Carnage appears with multiple heads like a beast from another world.

Carnage Has a Surprising New Manga Look in Marvel Comic Debut

Carnage knows horrible surprises

Carnage is a psychopath of the Klyntar race. Debuting in 1992 The Amazing Spider-Man #361 by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley, Carnage has been spilling blood ever since. He went from an alien link to a serial killer to Marvel’s own symbiote, Satan, in the events of Poison War. Now, he’s ready for a new look that’s chilling in its subtlety.

Everything Carnage does comes with shock and awe.

Carnage is no stranger to terrifying powers, as he has evolved to be able to break their physical form and enter their victims through every orifice of their body. This broken form appears to be teased in the manga-style cover of Child poison #3, where Carnage appears to be a force rather than a single person. Everything Carnage does comes with shock and awe – so it would only make sense that the blood-red symbiote would have another surprise for fans in his newest reinvention: he would bond with a host who has a completely unexpected personality.

Carnage’s Reinvented Manga Design Spells Danger for the Marvel Universe

Who is the new host if not Cletus Kasady?

The calm implicit in the cover scene – by the brilliant Taigaimi – speaks to the animalistic nature of Carnage. Although his final form may be the King in Crimson, there’s something unsettling about the juxtaposition of Carnage’s wild nature and the new focused host. Cletus Kasady is someone to fear, but he and Carnage exacerbate their impulses together. Child poison can debut fear-worthy Carnage by being bonded to a host who uses Carnage as a weapon, thanks to a sharp, calm mind that cannot be destroyed or corrupted by Carnage.

Whoever this new Carnage host is, he could be the most disturbing version of Marvel’s symbiote yet. Shonen manga does a good job of presenting heightened realities, while Western superhero comics, perhaps paradoxically, remain realistic, but this newest villain seems to be balancing both states. That Carnage it will no doubt fix all the disruptive aspects of the main continuity and only add to the iconic symbiote’s dark legacy.

Child poison #3 is available November 6, 2024 from Marvel Comics!
