A scene in And if...? season 3 completely changed one of Phase 4's best moments Eternalsand made everything much worse. And if...? Season 3, the final chapter of the popular MCU animated series, began its eight-episode run on December 22, 2024. Harkness seeks to harness the power of the Celestial Tiamut, stopping the Emergency but waging war against the Eternals and the other Celestials of the MCU in the process.
Although it was great to see Eternalswhich received a lot of criticism upon its release in 2021 but has gained some retrospective admiration, will finally be addressed in the MCU, And if...? distorted several of the film's best moments. The events of Eternals will be explored again in live action in the upcoming 2025 film Captain America: Brave New World. At the end of Eternalsthe Celestial Arishem appeared and ripped the limbs of the Eternals Sersi, Kingo, and Phastos from Earth, promising to judge the planet and humanity to see if Celestial Tiamut's life was worth sacrificing. Instead of simply disappearing into space, Arishem created a black hole-like singularity that allowed him to effectively teleport from one point in space to another.. This was an incredible show of strength that truly established Arishem and the Celestials as cosmic beings, but And if...? completely slaughtered at this point.
And if…? Season 3, Episode 2 made Arishem much less threatening
Arishem was weak in What If...? Season 3
Agatha Harkness and Kingo's plan to seize Tiamut's power in And if...? Season 3 Episode 2 caught Arishem's attention, setting him on the path to Earth. According to EternalsArishem should have been able to create a singularity and appear on Earth, stopping Agatha and Kingo easily. However, in an effort to buy enough time for Agatha to assume Tiamut's power and become a Celestial in her own right, Marvel Studios completely ruined Arishem's power set, as he was seen traveling through space like any ship or creature - nothing special.

This was a huge insult to Arishem's abilities, especially after Eternals' the ending already proved how powerful and terrifying the Celestial judge is. Arishem should have been able to sneak to Earth at any time, but it took so long to get there that Agatha achieved her goal.and this culminated in her also killing Arishem. This was seriously disappointing, even despite the beautiful visuals of Agatha's Celestial design in And if...? Season 3, but hopefully upcoming MCU projects will restore the awesome nature of Arishem and the Celestials.
