Even Marvel has to try Cyclops‘biggest problem. Scott Summers has a problem with women. It’s not that he doesn’t respect them. Cyclops loves women, and under the right leadership, he will take over women’s authority… but he may love women a little too much. In layman’s terms – Cyclops can’t keep it in his pants.
Even Marvel through a X post has to recognize Cyclops’ most recurring problem. This week, New York repealed a law dating back to 1907 that made the act of adultery a crime punishable by at least three months in prison. Marvel is sure that if he were a New Yorker, this decriminalization movement would be something the X-Men leader would celebrate.
The passionate Cyclops is a notorious trickster in the Marvel universe, and has become one of Marvel’s biggest recurring jokes.
How Cyclops cheating on Jean Gray became one of Marvel’s biggest running jokes
And Scott’s Biggest Character Flaw
His romantic status has been well documented, but nothing more than Cyclops’ complicated love triangle with Emma Frost and Jean Gray. It was during Grant Morrison’s “New Worlds” arc X-Men It turns out that Cyclops starts an affair with Emma Frost. Originally, the new professor at the Xavier Institute finds herself merely comforting him in a way that Scott feels Jean could not after her ordeal in merging with Apocalypse, but quickly, they – in layman’s terms – begin to connect telepathically. . To say that Jean isn’t happy when she finds out is an understatement, but when she dies, Scott still pursues a relationship with Emma.
Even before that, Cyclops made some pretty questionable romantic choices that legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont is convinced ruined the character. After the original Jean Grey’s death, he meets her clone, Madelyn Pryor, and Jean’s image is enough for Cyclops to begin courting her. They get married, have a child, and it looks like Scott finally gets his happy ending. Then the real Jean Gray returns, and in the blink of an eye, Scott leaves his family to pursue her. By Claremont’s assessment, he’s not wrong at all. Cyclops’ longing for love has become a defining character trait ever since..
Will Cyclops be able to overcome his biggest flaw/joke?
Probably not
It’s such a defining character trait that the current series of X-Men is mocking this, exposing that Cyclops is addicted to dangerous women. At this point, it has become such a prevalent character trait that it has become difficult to ignore, and perhaps even more difficult for Cyclops to shake off.. The questionable decisions he has made in the name of love condemn his character and are an easy target for criticizing him, no matter how much he has changed. It’s not a character flaw that Scott is actively working on. Cyclops he’s embarrassingly horny, and it’s hard not to criticize him for it whenever possible.
