New details from the latest MCU series Agatha all the time help explain the ending of WandaVisionand to provide Scarlet Witch’s villainous motivations with a much greater explanation. Episode 6 of Agatha all the time spent much of its running time exploring the story of William Kaplan and provided a compelling explanation for how Teen could be Wanda Maximoff’s son. This was done through incredible action and story detail that integrated seamlessly with the WandaVision series.
The identity of the teenager in Agate has been revealed, although it appears that the implications of this are enormous and are still being addressed. The most recent episode of the series showed William Kaplan, a boy from Eastview, is in a car accident and is dominated by the soul of Billy Maximoff. This event raised even more questions than it answered. However, it also recontextualized a notable scene from WandaVision which affected the entire plot of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Scarlet Witch actually sensed Billy and Tommy’s souls
Billy and Tommy’s souls are shown to have escaped the spell
The end of WandaVision I saw Billy and Tommy’s voices calling their mother. This led to the multiversal events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessalthough these new details of Agate suggest that Wanda’s children were still in their original universe, waiting to be found. Billy’s soul found William’s body, and some part of him cried out to Wanda, leading to Scarlet Witch’s ending in that series. She truly felt her children’s souls.
All of this raises the question of where Tommy is in the MCU. If Billy’s soul could be attached to another body, it seems likely that Tommy would have done so as well. Although their souls were constructed from Wanda’s chaos magic, it appears that each of them has taken on a life of its own. It seems likely now that Billy is looking for his brother on the Witch Road, and that this will be an important story point throughout the rest of the series.
Were Billy and Tommy bound by secrecy?
Agatha’s latest episode makes this seem likely
In the last episode, it is shown that Patti Lupone’s Lilia placed the secrecy on William, which prevented him from revealing his identity to the Coven. This was an interesting scene because it happened before Billy took control of William’s body. This suggests that perhaps there was already a bigger plan for Wanda’s children. The sigils may have been placed on both boys, or on both bodies that each of them was intended to inhabit.
William’s car accident near the Hex appeared to be a fortuitous coincidence, although this scene suggests there may have been greater intentionality behind this event. If Billy had a sigil placed on him, then Tommy probably could too. This would explain why Scarlet Witch was unable to find her children within her universe, as their knowledge would have been blocked by these sigils, which sent her in search of her children in other universes.
Now we know why Scarlet Witch was so desperate to find her children
Billy Maximoff is alive in the MCU, and Tommy probably is too
Scarlet Witch’s search for her children across the multiverse seemed to stem from a place of desperation after having lost everything that was important to her. Although this is still part of the truth, Billy’s existence in the MCU shows that there were much greater and more realistic motivations behind his actions. Wanda could hear her children calling to her in her own universe and she knew she needed to find them. She couldn’t get those real voices out of her head and that’s what drove her crazy.
None of this excuses Wanda’s actions or changes Wanda’s status in the MCU. However, this important context helped to better explain Wanda’s motivations. With Billy being alive in the universe but not being able to reach his mother due to the Secrecy, Wanda would have been driven to despair in an attempt to rescue and care for her children. As far as Wanda knows, they are still young, alive and in great need of her help.
Billy’s journey in the remaining episodes of Agatha all the time is exciting and is sure to provide plenty of additional twists throughout the rest of the series. While Teen’s identity was a big mystery, it seems like even this revelation will only lead to more mysteries. The anticipation for the relationship between him and Agatha, the potential search for Tommy and the revelation of what awaits them at the end of the Witch’s Road should be more than enough to keep the audience engaged with Agatha all the time for the remainder of its run.
