It looks like a single Spider-Man race is coming to an end. Last summer, Marvel's controversial main film series The Amazing Spider-Man directed by Zeb Wells came to an end to mixed reactions as critics celebrated the end. With ten parts by Joe Kelly and Justina Ireland 8 Spider-Man deaths run on the horizon, seems very underrated Spider-Man running elsewhere is setting up its own swan song.
As shared in X by user MangaMoguraRE, Spider-Man: Octopus Girl by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court will premiere its final chapter on January 7, 2025 on Manga Plus. The official Marvel story comes from the creators of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes which introduce the same kind of natural comedic tone and fast-paced action that made the manga a must-see for anime fans.
Some fans may scratch their heads as to whether this manga fits into Marvel, but Spider-Man: Octopus Girl proves how adapting a comic book to the Japanese narrative makes for a perfect marriage.
Spider-Man: Octopus Girl Manga Returns for One Final Chapter
The final chapter will arrive on January 7, 2025
For those curious, this manga revolves around Spider-Man's biggest villain, Doc Ock (also known as Doctor Octopus). In the first chapter of this series, the villain has another standard battle with Spidey, only to fall to his apparent death when three of his octopus arms disconnect from him in the heat of the fight. Anna Marie 2.0, Otto's AI assistant built with technology from the year 2099, can save him by placing Otto's body in a coma and his mind in a spare clone body. When he wakes up, the villain is not in his own body. Instead of Otto Octavius, we meet Otoha Okutamiya, a 14-year-old high school student..
The original Otoha finds herself trapped in Otto's fourth octopus arm, while Otto is in the young girl's body with his original memories and hers going to war. The first chapter was released in early summer 2023 and, a year and a half later, the end approaches. Spider-Man: Octopus Girl is practically a whimsical version of the famous Marvel film Superior Spider-Man arc, albeit with beloved tropes of Japanese storytelling. This manga focuses on reincarnation, as many popular stories in modern anime and manga do. Series like Oshi No Ko made the trope popular, and ironically, the idol drama also ended recently.
Our opinion on Spider-Man: Octopus-Girl
Why you should be excited about the manga's final issue
On paper, a Spider-Man A manga's story may seem surprising, but some of the character's earliest roots come from the manga. One of the first popular live-actions Spider-Man the adaptations did not belong to director Sam Raimi, but rather to a 1978 Japanese tokusatsu TV show. This time, while the character is at the height of his popularity around the world, Octopus Girl is preparing its eagerly awaited final chapter. The title is a fun series that carries the classic sensibilities of Spider-Man while also introducing one of Marvel's best villains, so this final chapter should be an unmissable farewell.
Chapter 32 of Spider-Man: Octopus Girl will be available from Jump Comics on January 7, 2025.
