Marvel Crowns a New, Most Powerful MCU Villain After the Most OP Update Ever (That Actually Makes No Sense)

Notice! This post contains SPOILERS for What If…? Season 3, Episode 2

Marvel And if…? Season 3 Episode 2 turns an unexpected MCU villain into a powerful god with the same power level as the Celestials. Several villains have vied for the title of most powerful antagonist in the main MCU timeline. For example, Thanos defeated the Avengers and destroyed half of all life in the universe, Dormammu is theoretically capable of consuming the entire universe with just his presence, and Kang the Conqueror has supposedly destroyed countless universes and annihilated many versions of the universe. Avengers.

And if…? introduced several characters who also qualify for the title of most powerful heroes or villains in the MCU multiverse. For example, And if…? Season 1's Supreme Strange was able to destroy his entire timeline with his corrupted magic, and And if…? Season 2's young Peter Quill threatened to conquer Earth with his celestial powers. And if…? Season 3 Episode 2 introduces yet another alternate variant of an established MCU character who gets a huge power boost somewhere out there in the multiverse.

Agatha returns in What If, season 3, episode 2

Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness is a movie star in What If…? Alternate Timeline of Season 3 Episode 2

Whereas Agatha Harkness dies in Agatha all the time episode 9, after completing the Witch Road trials and sacrificing herself to Death, one of Agatha's multiversal variants thrives as a classic Hollywood star in the 1930s. And if…? Season 3 Episode 2 introduces a version of Howard Stark who uses his wealth and intellect to become a movie studio executive instead of a scientist. With the help of his right-hand man Jarvis And if…? Season 3's Howard Stark Films the Era's Most Ambitious Musical, With A-List Star Agatha Harkness in the Lead Role.

Underneath his apparent desire for movie stardom And if…? Season 3's Agatha Harkness seeks magical power. Instead of Scarlet Witch's chaos magic, however, this variant of Agatha wants to absorb Tiamut's Celestial power before her birth. To achieve this, Agatha first needs to tap into the power of an Eternal, so she turns to a movie star, Kingo. After a fight scene that is as fictional as it is authentic, Agatha performs a ritual that allows her to suck King's power and then steal Tiamut's just in time to fight Arishem.

Agatha's divine form combines the power of two celestials, the Eternals, and her own magic.

And if…? Season 3 Episode 2 Shows the True Extent of Agatha's Power Absorption Abilities

Agatha Harkness's innate ability to steal other individuals' powers is not much different in And if…? Season 3, with the only difference being that this ability is not strictly limited to magic. When Kingo fights Agatha while Howard Stark is filming his movie, the Eternal realizes that Agatha is using Thena's weapon-making powers, and Agatha reveals that she has already acquired the abilities of Thena, Makkari and Gilgamesh. Agatha also shoots energy beams from her eyes, suggesting that she also stole Ikaris's powers at some point.

Agatha mocks Kingo “finger guns”but she uses her abilities in a drastically different way. Once Agatha absorbs Kingo's power, she creates a bond with Tiamut within the Earth's core and transforms into a giant mystical being made of pure energy. In this form, Agatha is larger than the Earth itself and is capable of facing Arishem in space. Using her magical knowledge, Agatha manages to restrain Arishem and drain his power with an attack not unlike the rune-casting spell that Scarlet Witch used to defeat the original Agatha in the film. WandaVision end.

Agatha's power upgrade is based on a huge plot hole

And if…? Season 3 takes some creative liberties with Agatha Harkness' powers

Agatha Harkness steals the magic of other witches in Agatha All Along and absorbs the power of the Celestials in What If Season 3 Episode 2

In addition to being able to absorb the energy of non-magical beings, the Agatha Harkness variant introduced in And if…? Season 3 Episode 2 also differs from Earth-616's Agatha in that she is able to drain the power of others without having to be attacked by them first. Agatha all the time showed how Agatha became powerful by having other witches attack her with their magic over the ages, and Agatha regained some of her magic when Alice Wu-Gulliver instinctively cast a spell on her. In And if…? season 3 episode 2, Agatha simply drains Kingo and Tiamut's power from their bodies.

And if…? Season 3, Episode 2 continues to suggest that not all Marvel universes have the same rules as the main MCU timeline

And if…? made major changes to several characters' abilities and origins to tell unique stories set in alternate timelines. For example, And if…? Season 1 Episode 8 made Vision's Mind Stone powerful enough on its own to cut Thanos in half, and And if…? Season 2 Episode 9 ignored the negative side effects of wielding the Infinity Stones when Captain Carter used them while fighting Strange Supreme. And if…? Season 3, episode 2 continues to suggest that not all Marvel universes have the same rules as the main MCU timeline.
