As you explore the world of Mario and Luigi: Brotherhoodyou will meet Issa Rock, a young woman with a thirst for knowledge. As you explore the islands, you’ll find all sorts of side quests, secrets, and more, but you can only find hidden reefs in the open sea. These reefs are found around Concordia’s seas, so you’ll have some work to do before you find them all.
Also note that some of the hidden reefs are only unlocked later in the game, so if there are some you can’t find, don’t panic. Hidden Reefs are rocky structures that often look like enemies or animals. To start this quest, speak to Issa on Shipshape Island, where she will give you all the information you need to proceed.
Every Hidden Reed Location in Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Start at Lushgreen Sea
After speaking with Issa, you can begin your search at Lushgreen Sea. This location has three reefs: the Crying Lion Reef, the Pensive Reef, and the Squid Reef. They are all in the southern part of this map and are relatively easy to find. Note that some of the following reefs can only be obtained later in the game, so there’s no shame in waiting until the end of the game. Brotherhood to return to your search.
Reef |
How to find |
---|---|
Recife do Leão Chorão |
You’ll find this one in the southwest corner of the location. |
Pensive Recife |
Head along the lower east path to find the next reef. |
Recife Lula |
This final reef is on the way to the Colored Sea to the south. |
After finding each reef, you will also hear some of Issa Rock’s poetry corresponding to each reef. This doesn’t do much other than add a bit of whimsy to an already eccentric game, but take the time to enjoy some silly poems if you wish. Once you find all three reefs in the Lushgreen Sea, head towards the Colorful Sea.
Colorful Marine Reef Locations
There are five reefs in the Colorful Sea and they are spread across the map. You’ll be exploring the entire region, so keep an eye out for these reefs while you do so:
Reef |
How to find |
---|---|
Recife Broque |
As soon as you enter the region, find the first reef in the middle of the map. |
Just-A-Fluke Recife |
This reef is on the west side of the map, towards the bottom left. |
Sinister Recife |
After getting the Just-A-Fluke Reef, keep going south to find this reef. |
Mysterious Whirlpool Reef |
Although perhaps a little blue, you can find this poop-shaped reef in the southeast corner of the map. |
Recife of Eternal Struggle |
Finally, also find the last reef in the region in the southeast corner. |
The Mysterious Swirl Recife is just one of the things they do Brotherhood a breath of fresh air it is, despite the juvenile humor. You’ll see light-hearted jokes and references like this throughout the game, though no other reef is as… unique as this one. Next on the list is the Brrrning Sea, so be sure to pack your scarf when heading out to find the five reefs at this location.
Brrrrr Marine Reef Locations
To find the five reefs of the Brrrning Sea, you will have to travel across the entire map. Here is the location of each reef:
Reef |
How to find |
---|---|
shower reef |
This is the northernmost reef in the Brrrning Sea, so head north and a little east from the area’s entrance to the Gulchrock Sea to find it. |
Mushroom Reef |
Mushroob Reef is in the middle of the map; you can find it by going south from Shower Reef. |
Racer’s Recife |
Then head southwest to the lower edge of the region to find Racer’s Reef. |
Rooted Turnip Reef |
From Racer’s Reef, continue east along the southern edge of the Brrrning Sea. Rooted-Turnip Reef is in the middle. |
feathered friend reef |
The last reef in the Brrrning Sea is in the southeast corner, east of Rooted Turnip Reef. |
After collecting the Feathered Friend Reef, head to the northwest corner of the region to head to the Gulchrock Sea.

Gulchrock Sea Reef Locations
Like the others, Gulchrock Sea has five hidden reefs to find. You can find them in the following locations:
Reef |
How to find |
---|---|
Recife Pilar Cater |
This is a Wiggler-shaped reef in the southwest corner of the area. |
Recife off course |
To get to the next reef, use the southernmost path to get to the southeast side of the map. |
Recife in love |
Next, you will find Lovestruck Reef in the center of the Gulchrock Sea map. |
Falling reef tower |
You’ll find the Tumbling Tower Reef near the Dream Guardian Reef in the north center of the map. |
Recife Guardian of Dreams |
Despite its proximity to Tumbling Tower Reef, you’ll need to head south and west before reaching Dream Guardian Reef. |
You are almost finished finding all the reefs Brotherhood have to see, but you still have two more in the Stormstar Sea region.
Stormstar Sea Reef Locations
This region is smaller than the others and as such, it only has two reefs to find it. All the paths in this region are quite connected, so finding these two reefs should be pretty quick:
Reef |
How to find |
---|---|
Recife do Jardineiro |
Go to the northern end of the Stormstar Sea and follow the eastern paths to find the Gardener’s Reef. |
Prince Reef |
To find the Princely Reef, you must upgrade the Ship-Shaped Island enough to unlock fast travel. This will give you access to the northern part of the Stormstar Sea, allowing you to discover the last reef. |
Now that you’ve obtained all 20 hidden reefs, return to Issa Rock on Shipshape Island to claim your prize. You will receive an HP + BP bracelet, which heals a certain percentage of your maximum HP and BP each turn. Although this quest takes a good chunk of the game to complete, it’s a fun opportunity to see and explore every corner of Concordia’s oceans and defeat bosses in Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood.
