In 1858, an eccentric young governess named Winifred Notty (Margaret Qualley) arrives at the remote Gothic mansion known as Ensor House. Winifred’s responsibilities include teaching the children good table manners and educating them about her family history while hiding her psychopathic tendencies. As Winifred adapts to life at Ensor House, staff begin to inexplicably disappear and the estate’s owners begin to wonder if something is wrong with their new housekeeper.
Wigon expressed her excitement about bringing Winifred to life on the big screen and praised the script for Done, which is marketed as a psychodrama filled with blood and mystery. Qualley and Kagan also released statements sharing their own enthusiasm for the project. They said:
Wigon: As soon as I discovered this completely insane and unforgettable character, I knew I needed to introduce viewers to Winifred Notty. I’m so thrilled that the fearless Margaret Qualley will bring this complex antihero to life. Virginia Feito’s script is an audacious mix of psychodrama, satire, violence and mystery. With horror aficionado producer Dan Kagan and support from Anton and Anonymous, I can’t wait to make Victorian Psycho.
Kagan: From the first few pages to the terrifying ending, Victorian Psycho entirely delivered on its promise of being a ride unlike anything I’d ever read before. I couldn’t be more excited to bring this film to life with our partners at Anton and Anonymous.
Qualley: Working with Zach [Wigon] again it feels like a rare gift, and I can’t wait to enter this twisted world he’s created.
What this means for Victorian Psycho and Margaret Qualley
Victorian Psycho could be a big opportunity for Qualley
Qualley now has a strong career after appearing on screen in Shane Black’s film The cool guys and then Tarantino Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. This year alone she starred in several films by acclaimed directors, including Ethan Coen Travel dolls and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Types of kindness. She also starred in the body horror film The substancewhich was released last month and currently has an impressive 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Screen speechPatrice Witherspoon gave The substance an impressive five stars.
While the film is still in its early stages, as the book it is based on won’t be released until February 2025, Victorian Psychopath seems like another worthy platform for Qualley to showcase his talents. She has already proven her range with her filmography so far, especially with the Netflix limited series Maid. With Victorian Psychopath and her seemingly complex antihero, it looks like Qualley will have another opportunity to showcase her talent in a genre she hasn’t yet touched. Having names like Wigon and Kagan is also reassuring, as Sanctuary and Long legs They are both acclaimed films.
Our opinion on the Victorian psychopath
This could be comparable to Gone Girl
As a fan of gothic horror, I’m excited about both Done’s book and its adaptation. It’s a guarantee to see Feito adapt the novelbringing missing girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn in mind. Hopefully, Victorian Psychopath will serve as a suitable platform missing girl did for Rosamund Pike, who played a complicated but compelling character. Victorian PsychopathWinifred Notty seems to be cut from the same cloth and should be a dark but fun character for Qualley to dive into.
