The Mandalorian Actor Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon on the fan favorite show, shared his perspective on the future of Star Wars In light of Star Wars Upcoming TV shows and new Star Wars Movies. The Star Wars The franchise has gone through a number of changes in recent years, in large part because the Skywalker saga ended with Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerLeaving the future of Star Wars Movies and TV shows in question. While Star Wars has since released a number of live-action television shows, The Mandalorian between them, The future of the franchise seems as open as ever.
Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito weighed in on the question of where Star Wars Will go from here, providing his insights as someone who was so integral to The Mandalorian. According to CultureSlateEsposito explains:
“…like in the MCU…Disney will figure out how to combine all of these characters into one really big movie or TV show. This is my sense of where it’s going to go…Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a new Vision, continue on with a Mandalorian movie… My sense is that this will all converge at one point or another and we will have another set of… [a] Trilogy, or more, of films.”
Esposito’s assessment of Star Wars The future certainly seems to be exactly the direction the franchise is takingEspecially with so many projects currently set in the New Republic era.
What this means for the future of Star Wars
Esposito’s perspective on Star Wars Future is well supported by the recent moves the franchise has made, and it makes sense for Esposito to be one of the best members of the Star Wars franchise to offer this insight. The Mandalorian is so much more than just one of Star Wars Best TV shows, though that’s for sure too. Meanwhile, The Mandalorian seems to be fundamental to the future of Star Wars. Many shows and movies, including The Mandalorian & Groguare set during the New Republic timeline, and The Mandalorian Lay the foundation for the future.

As Esposito stated, it seems Star Wars is moving towards a culminating show or movie that will tie together The Mandalorian, The Mandalorian & Grogu, Ahsoka Season 2, and perhaps even Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Star Wars Next TV show in the New Republic era. Esposito is also right that this will likely take a page from the MCU’s book, which successfully concluded the Infinity Saga with Infinity War And End game And moved on to the Multiverse Saga. As yet another major Disney franchise, it makes sense for Star Wars to follow suit.
The future indeed is bright for Star Wars
There was a lot of negativity in these Star Wars franchise of late, with The acolyte Cancellation in particular, however I remain hopeful about Star Wars Future. Rei’s upcoming Star Wars movie, rumored to be titled Star Wars: New Jedi Orderwill kick off a brand new era of the Star Wars Timeline that is currently undefined, meaning the possibilities are endless. I also agree with Esposito Star Wars is very intentional building to a show or movie that brings together many New Republic stories; As a Star Wars And MCU fan, I find this to be an exciting prospect.
The plan will likely be rolled out sooner rather than later, not only because Lucasfilm already confirmed The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released on May 22, 2026, but also because the franchise has booked release dates in December 2026 and 2027. Although the projects have not yet been identified, Star Wars Celebration 2025 is just around the corner, which would be the perfect time for Star Wars To reveal the overarching plan. I really believe that Giancarlo Esposito hit the nail on the head with his insights, which has me excited about the future of The Mandalorian And far beyond.
