Magic: The Gathering Duskmourn – release date, preorders, new cards and set details

All the details you need to get right Game Magic: The Gatherings upcoming Duskmorn Expansions are now available, with the newest set following the trends of past modern releases in offering multiple products. Duskmorn is another innovative spin on a MTG expansion. The setting, the titular Duskmorn, is a plane entirely consumed by one very haunted house. When the heroes of the story are drawn into his conspiracies and dirty plans, they come face to face with a demonic entity that could consume the entire multiverse if they are not stopped.

Duskmorn will have big shoes to fill in terms of recent releases, like the newest Standard set, Bloomburrowwas a huge success and tapped into some underused potential in high fantasy by anthropomorphizing popular characters and placing them in a Redwall-esque setting. This trend was a difficult one to follow Modern Horizons 3The straight-to-modern expansion that dramatically altered the format’s metagame and spawned multiple new strategies.

Some of the specifics of the treatments are worth noting. Double exposure cards are based on classic horror photographyAnd come in two variants, either a purple / yellow contrast or a black / red one. Paranormal frames are meant to look like glitchy, old-school, 80s horror VHS tape presentations. Mirror monsters are extended art that seem to each have something to do with reflections of some kind; Samples have shown a monster emerging from an eye, a television, and through the skull of a mirror so far.

Lurking evil cards are alternative art of some cards in Duskmorn Which are subtly changed to include the hint of a monster lurking somewhere in the presentation. Japan showcase cards are just what they sound like – treatments meant to highlight Japanese style art, created by Japanese artists.

Special guest cards are a return feature that bring back cards from Magics past and give them new art treatments related to the plane; in this case, Duskmorn Means the cards will have a horror tinge to them. Finally, the full-art manor lands are basic lands with the full art treatment, one for each basic, showing a different place in the House of Duskmorn.

Duskmorn Will also introduce new mechanics to MTG. Here is a brief overview:

  • impending: An alternate casting cost for creatures that trigger their abilities, but cannot actually put them on the battlefield until the indicated number of turns pass.
  • Room cards: Split cards with two different casting costs. Players choose which side of the room they are casting and pay the appropriate mana, but they can “unlock” the other side of the room at sorcery speed by paying its mana cost to gain both benefits.
  • manifest fear: A slightly different spin on the manifest ability, players look at the top two cards of their library, choose one to put face-down as a 2/2 creature, and put the other in the graveyard. The revealed creature can be turned face up for its mana cost as long as it is a creature card.
  • Yearly: Abilities that trigger when an enchantment comes under your control or a space is unlocked.
  • Survival: Abilities that trigger in your post-combat main phase if the creature it’s printed on is tapped.

There is also one main carrying keyword which Innistrad Fans in particular will love:

  • delirium: A mechanic that gives a card a more powerful effect or bonuses as long as there are four or more different card types in the player’s graveyard.
