Talk to The Hollywood ReporterGough and Millar explained the reason why Lydia’s nightmare happened Beetlejuice BeetlejuiceRevealing It was done on purpose to keep the story neatly wrapped up. Millar in particular revealed that it was the last scene written before the strike of Hollywood writers in 2023, made to be as wild an ending for the movie as possible. Alfred Gough: We didn’t want the movie to feel like it was wrapped in a bow, so we came up with the idea with Tim of Lydia giving up on her show and her and Astrid [Jenna Ortega] Go away on the trip she was going to take with her dad. It was Tim’s idea to do the sequence and make it look like she gets married and everything is going great – and then she has the Betelgeuse baby and you realize it’s a dream. It was the end-of-the-many curveball, so you realize that nothing in the world is ever wrapped up in a bow.
Miles Millar: This was the last scene we wrote before the strike. We initially turned that scene in the hospital hours before the strike was called. That was the last thing we wrote for the movie. It just felt bonkers and inspired to have it like it would be a nice, warm, cuddly feeling and then the Betelgeuse baby comes back and it’s also perfect.
